Catchmaster Defiant Reusable Ant Traps Indoor Refill (16 Pack), Bait NOT Included – Bait Stations that Hold Liquid Ant Killer – Stackable, No Mess, Discreet Bait Stations for Pest Control

This review is for Catchmaster Defiant Refill Bait Stations (16 Pack). I bought these to fill with BASF granular ant bait. I snap two of these trays together so that they are covered (like shown on the cover of the box), this means this 16-pack gets me 8 bait stations. The bait have entry points on all four sides, which increases the likelihood of ants getting to the bait. Each station also capable of holding quite a bit of bait. In fact, I think next time I need to deploy these I am going to put protein based granular bait on one side and sugar based liquid bait on the other side. I had considered the Catchmaster Heavy Duty Bait Stations, but I was concerned about the lid flipping open, which was confirmed by multiple reviews. The bait stations are very good, and the plastic is pretty solid. Side Note About Ant Bait: Ants eat two types of food, sugar & protein. Certain types of ants prefer one over the other, but even same types of ants will choose which of the two they need based on the needs of the colony at that time. I had ants almost completely ignore sugar baits, which had never failed me prior. I had to get protein baits, and the ants completely went for only the protein bait. You can put out both types of bait at the same time. If you are seeing large swarms of ants, particularly flying ants, this means you have a large colony, possibly multiple colonies.

Great traps that can be used with gel or granulated baits. Reusable! Their bait gel works great.

Eas enough to use. But as a stacked trap it takes a bit of effort to snap it together. Wants to keep coming undone. It is also squishy plastic. So not really "safer to use around pets and kids" It takes virtually zero effort to pop this thing open. So if looking for a safe contained trap this isn't it.

The goo that goes in these ant traps makes getting extras a necessary purchase, unless you want to create your own containers for them. This refill pack makes it easy to fill and leave them, tossing them out after about a week or two and using a fresh one. The ant killer is VERY sticky and it solidifies after awhile so using a new trap is necessary. These are a little expensive for what they are, but the traps and goo are very effective for killing ants.

This seems to work very well. Once I see ants, I put these traps down and soon they disappear. So, I recommend this for pesky home-invading ants. Try to keep the liquid traps out of the sunlight and away from heat, because they'll overflow and spill and you'll have sticky surfaces to clean. The only thing I don't necessarily like about this brand is that the extra plastic traps, that you'll most likely need, are too expensive for pieces of plastic. I wish they were half the price, then I'd be more than happy to buy the liquid bottle pack and the extra traps pack. Overall, it works well and does its job.

Defiant Ant Bait Stations The Defiant Bait Stations have mostly replaced the prefilled Terro bait stations for me. I have cats in the home, so I use them exclusively in the “closed” configuration, where two pieces are snapped together to form a covered bait station. Around here we mostly have Argentine ants, so the review is based on that usage scenario. The most useful features. 1. Reusable. When done, just soak them in water until the bait softens and then wipe/rinse them clean. Zero plastic waste. 2. Less wasted bait. With the prefilled stations I rarely use more than half the bait, and normally it’s much less than that. The usual outcome is that the trap fills up with ants that drowned in the bait, or the bait dries and hardens and no longer attracts ants. With the Defiant traps, I add a relatively small amount of bait, similar as you would with the cardboard cards that come with Terro liquid bait bottles. I can monitor the consumption through the clear plastic lid. For a severe infestation, I might replenish the bait a few times. But most of it gets consumed. 3. With the smaller liquid volume, you effectively get more perimeter area for the ants to feed at the bait, especially with the multiple entry points on the Defiant stations. With the Terro stations I do notice more congestion. The drawback to the multiple entries is that the bait dries out faster. 4. You can somewhat mitigate the drying problem by adding water to the bait. I use an eyedropper to keep the bait hydrated and attractive. This is readily done, since you can easily remove the lid, which is not possible with the prefilled baits. I do this daily. For a mild infestation I might do this multiple times. A bit more work, but the bait continues to attract ants as well as day one. And again, less waste. 5. Another advantage of the low-fill approach is that I don’t get spillage if the cats do decide to play with the bait station. The bait is viscous enough that it won’t flow unless you fill up the station to the brim. 6. Easy storage. The two identical pieces that form a “closed” station nest when stacked allowing for compact storage. To form the station, you flip over one piece and snap it to another piece. Simple and effective. It’s a really well-though out design. There is also a long and narrow version of the traps for narrow spaces like window sills. The one limitation to these stations is that they really only work on horizontal surfaces due to having openings on all 4 sides. Terro makes pre-filled traps that are designed for wall mounting for those occasions. I have tried both the Terro liquid bait and the Defiant liquid bait with these stations. I didn’t see any difference in effectiveness when tested side-by-side. Overall, these are just as effective as the prefilled baits, but much more cost-effective.

This is a falsely advertised product. The box shows a bait station and states "16 stations" ... However there are 16 pieces of flimsy plastic and it requires 2 pieces to create 1 bait station. So there are 8 bait stations not 16. They are flimsy plastic that provably cost less than 5 cents to manufacture. TOTAL RIPOFF!

These are so convenient and they're reusable. Easy to use and you never have to touch any gel. I use these with Advion ant gel and within 24 hours the ants are gone. When the ants are gone I rinse them out and save for next year.
