There is no ON/OFF switch. Just plug in and unplug when you are done. And no heating level.

can the surface grills be removed for cleaning ?

It can’t be removed,just clean right on top,but easy to clean.

How do you use the floating hinge? Mine is acting like a regular hinge, completely flattening the hinged end yet not closing all the way.

Press the button on the hinge. Looking at the picture of the press, the round part that sticks out between the top and bottom, press that in while folding the top down.
