Ceylon Tea - A Different Green Tea Taste Profile
I love anything hot drinks whether hot coffee, hot chocolates, and/or hot tea. I love to experiment and try different varieties from different parts of the world. Most of my green teas are either sourced from Japan, Taiwan, or China. This is my first time tasting green tea from Sri Lanka.I am trying today this “Basilur Artisan Ceylon Silver Green Needle Tea - 100% Pure Single Estate Ceylon Green Tea, Handpicked Buds, Exquisite & Rare, Premium Gift, Luxurious Sri Lankan Tea, 50g (1.76oz)”.Let me do a quick grade summary before I go into details:Presentation: 5 out of 5Giftable: 5 out of 5Scent / Aroma: 5 out of 5Bitterness: 4 out of 5 (Subjective)Astringency: 4 out of 5 (Subjective)Umami: 3 out of 5 (Subjective)Provided Instruction: 2 out of 5Taste profile and anything to do with taste I would say is subjective. Some may like strong and others prefer milder tea. But for a person who drinks a lot of various teas - here is my take. The tea has a nice pleasant scent - similar to what most fresh and crips green tea should be. As soon as I cut the foil bag it releases the Umami scent you are expecting from a fresh green tea.I love the presentation of this product. The box is elegant and then inside is a vacuum-sealed-foiled bag where the fresh tea is kept.Unlike green Macha or Sencha tea which exhibits no bitterness, this one has a slight bitterness and lingering astringency at the side of the tongue. The taste is much different from Japanese, Chinese, and Taiwanese, though it is a Silver Green Needle Tea, I can taste that particular taste only you get from the Ceylon Tea variety.I have given a low score to the Provided Instruction the reason that it is hard to measure 1 teaspoon of this tea variety due to its long needle-like form, an equivalent weight in grams should have been added for better estimation of the tea-to-water ratio for somebody new to preparing tea.Overall, I enjoyed drinking this tea and I will add it to my pantry’s collection. Good stuff!

Extremely weak & not a normal Ceylon green flavor profile
Ceylon green tea is normally a fairly robust tea full of floral notes & a unique honey back end. This tea is very weak & lacks real flavor. Which is odd, as it has the official Ceylon Tea stamp. The flavor is almost nonexistent, & when brewed stronger, becomes very astringent. I brewed using a traditional 2 grams per 8oz at 175° for 3min. The water barely took color, so I left it to steep another minute. Had I done a blind taste test with water, I would have had difficulty knowing which was the tea.My next try was 3 grams per 8oz, same steep time & temp. The tea became a more normal color, but was now more astringent than flavorful. Adding some water just made it too weak again. At the high cost for this tea, I brewed 4 quarts & it was gone. So almost $20 for two pitchers of tea. My much cheaper green Ceylon was far more flavorful & complex.Bottom line: I do not recommend this brand. Try other green Ceylon. They are wonderful teas, though difficult to find sometimes.

Very clean, mild favor
The aroma of this tea reminds me of a freshly mowed field - a mild earthiness, but mostly fresh - clean-smelling, and green. The flavor is very mild and light- perfect for when you don't need a heavy, overly strong flavor profile that could overwhelm the taste of anything else it is served alongside. I would describe it as more smooth than crisp, and can see it being a great choice for an afternoon cup.

Very light yet lasting flavor
Brews up a light brown vs image on seller page that show light green. There is also a photo of a very dark cup of tea (definitely not this variety). The tea itself is also in form of a needle whereas the image on seller page shows a pile of a darker rolled tea next to package. Guessing that the listing photos do not match the tea. Lastly the image on seller page of a brewed cup is of some other variety as you can see in the attached photos a needle tea holds the needle form throughout brewing vs unraveling into a full larger tea leaf. The tea itself is a very gentle light flavored Ceylon. Is pleasant and was able to get several steeps and retain the flavor. The aroma of the tea is very light and earthy green. The aroma of the brewed leaves is distinct Apricot. My wife first mentioned this and handed me the cup with brewed leaves to smell. It was so apricot that I swear I had a vision of a ripe sliced apricot for a moment when I inhaled. No information as to what single origin estate brewed so do rinse your leaves prior to enjoying as no telling what tea has gone through or been exposed to. I always appreciate when I can route back to where tea was grown and who and how the grower approaches tea.

This does not have the typical grassy, often bitter, green tea taste...
Basilur Artisan Ceylon Silver Green Needle Tea is a rare, expensive specialty green tea that tastes amazing! It’s a loose-leaf Sri Lankan tea made of handpicked buds from tea grown in specific soil and a harvest time that gives it a distinctive taste with a very slight bit of grassiness and no bitterness detected. The dried tea leaves are large dark green ‘needles’ that smell grassy when wet from steeping. Basilur makes award-winning teas and this delicious one comes in a 1.76oz resealable bag inside a decorative cardboard box.

Lovely aroma
This is a lovely tea. I like the beautiful packaging. I like the sweet mildly grassy scent when I open the package. I brewed mine for 4 minutes at green tea temperature and it had a delightful flavor. I really like this tea. I would get it again. I also think it would make a lovey gift.

Great tasting silver needle tea.
The tea is fresh and fragarent. I can't find any fault on the tea quality and taste. As a gift, the packaging leaves something to be desired. However, the price is kinda high for how much tea in the package.
