They work. I hate them. Can go off during normal cooking. Triggered by vape. I'm sure if you are an in door smoker it will go off for those too. They are fine as it's only once in a while. 5 star because they do work. Better to be over sensitive than not sensitive enough I guess.

We were getting tired of false-alarm smoke detectors and having them all sing out in unison. Also, getting tired of replacing expensive 9v batteries each year for the 7 of them. This smoke detector has a 10 year battery, loud alarm and easy installation. We opted for the battery only model and tucked the low-voltage wires away underneath the mounting brackets. If the brackets aren't drilled for your wiring box dimensions, they're easily modified with a drill using a small drill bit to drill guide holes and then expanded in diameter with a larger bit to the size needed. Once the base plate is mounted, just turn the detector on the base a quarter turn. The battery is activated with a chirp. A quick button test to make sure it's active. That's it. I'm not a wiz at the mechanics, but the advertisement says that this model reduces false alarms by using traditional as well as visual tech in order to determine an actual fire or smoke danger. So... set it and forget it (with whatever test schedule is right for you) and don't worry about them again until 2035!

I do not recommend this product. Within a month, one of the detectors started beeping indicating the battery was bad. Instructions said it would have to be discharged even though it was supposed to last 10 years. The second detector lasted a couple months longer after the first detector and the same thing happened. It too had to be discharged for the battery. I will never buy a smoke detector of this type again or this brand, very expensive for them not to last one year. Maybe I can get the third one to last more than a couple of months.

easy to install for piece of mind

I bought a 3 pack Kidde Detect (Model 20SD10) to replace Kidde Model KN-COSM-1BA. Please note that this is only a Smoke Detector. If you need a Smoke and Carbon Monoxide detector, you’ll need a different model. I never realized that smoke detectors will expire after 10 years. I thought that you just need to keep changing batteries every so often and you’re good to go. But unfortunately, it’s not the case. Have you ever wondered why it has a live wire and battery connections together? It’s pretty redundant right? Well it turns out that on the normal, you’re relying on the electricity. Only when the electricity goes out, the reliance on the battery kicks in. PRO: 1. You can install this anywhere in your home. It doesn’t require a live wire connection (electricity connection) and the only power source is the battery. 2. The traditional smoke detectors require a battery change (AA or 9V) every year or so. This is a 10 year battery! Hopefully it will last as long as they say. No more low battery chirps! CON: 1. The bracket provided is not the same size as my previous bracket Model KN-COSM-1BA. It’s smaller. Why?! Regardless what model they make, they should have the same bracket for their entire line. FINAL VERDICT: I would not recommend buying this to replace an older model because you possibly have to makeshift the bracket like I did. If you have an existing live wire connected, you can buy a different Model that also allows a live wire connection with a 10 year battery. On the other hand, this would benefit you if you need smoke detectors and you don’t have an existing live wire connection.

Very easy to install. We had a Kidde smoke detector for 10 years without changing any battery, so when it started beeping we ordered the same brand, all my husband had to do we twist the old one to remove and twist on the new kidde smoke detector! So easy, he was expecting it to be a pain, it was not and he was thrilled! Will definitely buy again. Arrived on time!

This smoke detector is a great value for the home. The battery lasts for 10 years so no need to replace the battery every 6 months. It is wireless, so you don't need to hard wire it to the electrical system. The accuracy is spot on with no nuisance alarms. It will be a good item to get when you need a replacement detector.
