With Bosch Extractor, doesn't pull upward enough if at all.
Ok. I'm nearing 60 with a slightly bulged disk but I am pretty strong. This is heavy and the uplift is inadequate. I have to use alot of "arm curl", bicep push and frequently swap arms. There isn't a good way that ive found to use my body as a pivot support. Perhaps it needs an adjustable shoulder support strap? I have this running off the brand new 9 gallon Bosch dust extractor and have used the included single 80 grit expert filter mesh disk as well, some from a variety pack. At full suction, it barely pulls to the ceiling, even with the brand new disk. I wonder if the lack of big holes that correspond to the sander pad is the problem or if the vacuum is the problem or if the pole sander is the problem. Perhaps all 3. I'm not sold on the mesh sanding disks for this because the pad/mesh itself gets clogged with a build up of cheesy powder. Before I added soap to my mud, the center area actually got a cake like build up so atleast with the soap, the buildup is between the pad and the sand disk but not in the center as well. The only thing I can think of trying is standard 6 hole disks and/or maybe its the circular perimeter brush around the sanding pad that isnt dense enough to complete the vacuum chamber effect? I have not tried a Mirka, Fein or Festool sander/dust extractor combo (which all are are easily twice the price) but I have heard they do suck up to the ceiling to reduce operator strain and fatigue. Perhaps they arent any better and it's my lack of strength from my back injury is the problem. The Mirka claims it weighs around 7 lbs. .....The Festool for sure oscilates. Another problem is that with what little upward lift the suction does supply, everytime the filter self clean activates (which is often) you better have extra upward pressure or this sander let's loose and tilts causing swirls.. I wish I could sample the three high end combos.
