Useful and easy to use
A wonderfully useful and easy to use device that hardly ever leaves my side. The recordings are clear and the playbak is easy - as is transfer to PC. It was excellent value for money.

Digital Voice Recorder for Everything
This DVR records music or speech and other options depending on your preference. Excellent product.

Can't be without it.
This VN-541PC recorder/notetaker is small, light and highly useful in as far as you can make recordings instantly, in the dark if necessary without first looking to turn it on. The voice recordings are clear and carry the date and time of each. The repeat play back mode of 'single' or 'all messages' is so useful in as far as it will auto repeat your recording as many times as you need. Noting long parts or phone numbers, interviews, etc. are an error free joy. Shortcomings: The speaker is tiny, so the audio output is scratchy, but plug in a pair of earphones and all is crystal. Batteries: It does not have a re-chargeable socket and AAA dry cells can eventually become expensive. I use rechargeable cells. Changeable in seconds, these work fine but it is a nuisance to have to re-set the date/time with each change. I use this recorder several times daily and nightly. I would not like to be without it for a moment. Good tool, excellent value. Sorry, no you can't! Buy your own.

A very useful digital note taker, couldn't be without it. Far more useful that the old Olympus Pearlcorder i used to own.

Difficult to use
Felt cheap. Difficult to use... instructions not on line... sent back. Advise spend at least £100 on something that has built on external mic and better controls. Get advice.

Instant-ON
If you're trying to catch ideas the last thing you need is distraction to open recorder - this has 1 slide button to instantly record, so it does it's job perfectly. Well made too, easy to use

Disappointing sound quality
A digital voice recorder is the perfect accompaniment at meetings where its important that nothing is missed in the minutes. For this, one needs a good voice recorder that picks up everyone in the room. Unfortunately, I don’t think this recorder is quite up to the job. This OM system which I immediately recognised as an Olympus product, is a bit disappointing considering the quality Olympus cameras have been known for over the years. Ok, yes, the recorder will pick up sound from many metres and you can recognise whom is talking, but there is quite a bit of background scratchy noise on playback that makes this recorder sound like a cheap copy and not an expensive quality product one would expect from the likes of Olympus. On the plus side, there is loads of recording time, at 259 hours, from only 4Gb storage capacity. The digital voice recorder is very easy to use, recording is simply pushing the orange switch up to record then down when completed. The playback again is easy as is the fast forward and back or pause. The recorder has built in noise cancellation, but I’m not sure if that is working as my PC was on when I recorded, the fan noise is picked up and quite clearly heard on playback. Overall disappointing.

So many features
This has so many features that the instruction manual was scary (it’s bigger than the voice recorder!) The quality of the recordings was good however it is definitely required to be on the correct setting as if it is just the plain voice recorder mode and not music mode the quality definitely shows on playback. I’m impressed with this little gadget and it even comes with the batteries and so is useable out of the box. I can see this being really useful and the potential is huge. I really like this and will be using it at all lectures and concerts

The output volume is much too quite!! Ad audacity, a music editing program does not recognize WAM files! MP3 and WAVE, it does. So I can't edit recordings from the Olympus. This works ok with other voice recorders. Converting WAM to WAV is also not possible. I don't understand why this recorder make it so difficult!
