Maximise athletic performance and increase strength and endurance through the power of yoga. Incorporating yoga into your fitness regime can help you perform better on the sports field and in the gym! Inside the pages of this yoga book you'll find: - More than 50 postures with full-colour photos and step-by-step instructions - Over 20 workout routines tailored to specific performance goals, such as endurance and power, or improving your running or weightlifting performance - Focuses on the functional aspects of yoga, including sports performance and injury prevention - Information on how yoga can specifically benefit men - Easy-to-follow steps to execute yoga postures Yoga is known to have plenty of benefits, but did you know that it also has benefits specifically for men and athletes? At the core, this ancient practice is based on stretching different muscle groups for greater flexibility, ease of movement, and greater power. And these benefits translate to sports performance, gym gains, and overall health – allowing your body to move as it should. No chanting required to master these yoga postures and workouts! Written by Dean Pohlman, sports coach and author, this yoga book for men is focused on yoga's functional fitness benefits and less on the spiritual or emotional aspects. A wonderful gift and fitness resource, Yoga For Men: Build Strength and Improve Performance will help men meet their performance goals, play harder, and feel better. Review: Easy to follow for beginners, with plenty of scope to increase difficulty - This is a good introduction to yoga, with exercise routines ranging from beginner to more challenging workouts. There's a lot of photos to help you get the correct posture, with guidance on where to start if you can't quite get there straight away. There are specific workouts labelled for specific issues or areas, eg. 'Full Body Strength', 'Strong Spine, Strong Body' or 'Abs on Fire', etc.. in 3 sections - 'Restorative', 'Restorative' and 'Strengthening', 'Strengthening'. Included in the book are the individual workouts which can take from about 15mins to 1hr depending on which you choose and which level of difficulty you are using (Beginner has shorter times to hold each position, Expert has longer times). At the back of the book are programmes if you want a long term exercise plan with a goal in mind, which comprises of a timetable stipulating which workout to follow on which day. There is no 'spiritual' element to this book and concentrates on injury recovery, strengthening, flexibility and general fitness, which can be used in isolation or to complement an existing exercise routine. The yoga positions are not exclusive to men of course and I'm sure anyone could get a lot of benefit, but the routines are designed to strengthen and work the areas typically found in men's training. Review: Works for me. - Never having done yoga before I now do it everyday. Each posture has its own page with photos and explanation. Clear and easy to follow. There are programmes for easing pain, improving posture and promoting fitness. These are clearly set out by picture and name, with time to hold for beginners and advanced contained on two facing pages of the book. The workouts are also set out to vary over the weeks. It is the more physical side of yoga, which suits me and having learnt the positions, takes about 30 minutes a day. I’ve bought several copies for friends and relatives. I can’t recommend highly enough. No, I’m not receiving anything for this review and have no connection to anyone involved in its publication or distribution. My mother at 88 has been a yoga instructor for 40 years and says my postures are very good. Appears you can learn somethings from a book. I do have two digital timers, one face up on the floor and the other at height up on the wall, meaning I can focus on moving quickly and smoothlyish to the next position.

Not bad
Been a fan of man flow yoga for a while. This book is good especially for a beginner / intermediate level. It has good explanations of poses and what you should feel while stretching etc. The workouts are great and can get a sweat on working through some of them. Only minor negative is theres not much on transitioning between certain poses. I find myself adding in an extra move to get from one to another as I've learned from doing other flows. Some workouts seem like partly unconnected collection of poses that target a certain area, which is fine. Just lacks a bit of fluidity but I guess this is aimed a little more at building strength. Would still recommend

Want to do Yoga - buy this book !
If you want to know to do Yoga then buy this book. Dont bother about the 'its for Men bit', this guide is for anybody. 15 minutes reading and you are off. Very clear and simple instructions with good quality pictures. You do not need to bother paying for classes - unless you lack motivation - this guide should do it. Used it for a month and seen an improvement. It has lots of exercises and different routines, depending on what your objective is.

Easy to follow guide
Whilst the authors views on things other than yoga might not be palatable, this book delivers. Good step by step images and clear written guides allow you to easily achieve the different poses over time. 3 different regimes are offered at the end depending on your aim as well. The only gripe I’d give is that I’m not too sure this is strictly yoga, but more of a yoga/pilates/core strengthening regime. Overall though book I have used successfully for a year now.

Visuals are great
I learn by watching and looking at pictures, which is great as this book has plenty of images to help you achieve the right posture and pose. If you learn by reading loads, then this may not be what you want. For me, it's perfect. I am doing a lot of the exercises and can feel and see the difference. Highly recommended. Paul

A compelling new voice championing Yoga for all
Yoga for Men has a very accessible structure which offers scope for less experienced and advanced students to find their individual levels. The layout, photos and routine illustrations work well to directly communicate key yoga principles. Dean Pohlman CEO and founder of the online ManFlowYoga community is an excellent and engaging communicator. This is his first publication and it perfectly compliments the wide range of video tutorials he has produced for MFY. I started Dean’s programmes for persistent lower back pain which had become debilitating. Initially sceptical that an online resource could possibly work I quickly began to appreciate how powerful the yoga sequences were as my back pain resolved. My strength, flexibility and stamina have built over the last few months and continue to do so through daily practice. Having previewed this exciting new book I highly recommend it’s no nonsense, coherent and systematic approach in making the ancient art of Yoga accessible to all. This book and the MFY online community firmly challenge the notion that yoga isn’t for ‘real’ men. Dean passionately articulates how yoga can help professional and amateur athletes while also keeping us lesser mortals fit, healthy and supple too. Go on, be you a man or a woman, buy a copy and before long you’ll be building on the 7 keys to yoga success. Building strength, improving performance and increasing flexibility are just a few of the numerous benefits you’ll discover.

Good book for newbies to yoga
My brother first bought this book n I was going thru the pages n find that the book offers clear instructions n lotsa pictures. Though it said for men, I find it’s applicable to both sexes. In fact I like it very much that I bought it as a gift for my friend who is starting on her yoga journey. She too finds the book very useful

A clear and well illustrated book of yoga poses and exercises.
In this book Dean provides an amazing amount of information that is well organized into the individual poses, workout routines for specific issues and therapeutic exercise regimes. This is an excellent reference book with amazing photography of each pose with notes on proper stance and places where correction of posture is important. When a routine is suggested, each pose is shown and described as to how many repetitions or pose duration in order to accomplish your goals. I would highly recommend this book for any person wanting to increase flexibility, strength and improve posture.
