Great unit at a fair price
I have a new Macbook Air. It doesn't come with a built-in CD/DVD drive nor does it have USB ports. I wanted to be able to put some of my photos on CDs and to make DVD's from iMovie. After a fair amount of research, I settled on the Nolyth 5-in-1 External CD DVD Drive. It had great reviews and comes everything I needed. It arrived in a really nice carrying case. It is beautifully made and feels very solid. It has a cable with both a USB and Thunderbolt USB-C ends so it works on both my Macbook Air and my older Mac without the need of an adapter. Nice, I don't have to worry about loosing the adapter! Best yet, the drive works right out of the box. Simply plug it into the computer and insert a disk! No need for new software or downloads. Perfect for folks like me without a lot of computer knowledge. So far no problems. It does everything it say it is suppose to do. There is a 2 year warranty and a help line that actually responds. And, it is reasonably priced at nearly half of the Apple unit (the Apple unit needs an USB to USB-C adapter). I highly recommend this unit! Ten stars!!!

A real gem!
This DVD CD drive player is a keeper! I'd been searching for an affordable drive that I could easily transport and use with my MacBook Air. This drive is compact, light, and is extremely simple to “plug and play”. This model has an “eject” button that offers the option of ejecting a disc either from the drive or through the computer. It offers additional features including burn and write. An added bonus it that has a sleek sophisticated look with quietly changing colored lights once plugged in so you can be assured it is engaging with your computer. The carrying case is also attractive yet sturdy. This drive is well worth the investment. Finally, in case you need help, NOLYTH has superlative customer service. I had a couple of questions and the representative, Miss Coco, was immediately responsive, utterly professional, and super helpful...the epitome of customer service representation. I'll be following NOLYTH for future products.

It's working?
Ok, so far it's working on playing Region 2 DVD's. I bought this so that we could watch some of my wife's vids that are Region 2. It works with that but there is a bug at times. Not sure if it's the Player or the PC. It seems to loose which drive it's under and stops playing the DVD. I am running a HP with windows 8. Our set up is this PC is plugged into the TV under VGA/PC port, the sound external of PC is plugged via 5mm/RCA splitter right into the Home Stereo System. Most Smart TV's can view the internet, but it's patchy trying to navigate this way. Here with the PC/wireless mouse/wireless keyboard we can work this fine. We have more of a refined way of watching what we want. When I ran the first DVD, it did play it without confirming what Region I wanted. But this is day one with this purchase, though and we're still sorting out the bugs. We haven't operated this PC in while so we are still doing updates on OS of the HP. But this drive we bought, came with (2) cables. The first one I'm guessing is for the the built in Flash Drives power cord. The second is the USB. Now this is looking like USB 2 or 3. I use only the USB cable and not the power cable. But the DVD Player works without any lag on the vids. The cables are less than 12". So the best way to use this Drive is apply Velco with sticky backs onto the DVD Player. You can find this stuff everywhere. Peel and stick and stick this drive where you want. I did it on the side of my PC so I can reach the Drive Bay on this player. That way it's not flopping around. This drive is a little flimsy on the plastic side, so it's not going to take a lot of abuse. Stick and be done with it. Also. The manual that came with this is somewhat misleading. The English is that of a Chinese Company, so it's like Yoda from Star Wars trying to explain this set-up. In a way it's hit or miss kind-of. But for a PC DVD player less than 20 bucks. you can' t expect much. I hope I was able to cover some bases for someone. Now my wife can watch the Dukes Boys in German until her heart is content.

Good performance, multiple uses
I haven't bought that many drives to be able to compare it with the performance of others. I spent a few bucks more hoping to get good quality. It performs as advertised, and is quiet, plus the lighted logo on top is a nice touch. The USB slot and the card reader is handy. It seemed to respond promptly to the commands sent to it. As with all portable drives in this price range, it is fairly sturdy but does need careful handling. The only complaint I have is the short interface cable, as has been mentioned on many other drive reviews. I need to also use it with a desktop with USB ports in the front at the top, so hooking this up required finding a level spot on top of the PC. I ended up buying a good quality USB extension cable so I can set the drive on the counter. The manufacturer says not to add extensions, but I chanced it, and it worked. It has a nice padded carrying case and customer service is excellent.

Separate cables for power & data.
Wasn’t able to use this item. Two “usb” connections needed (as far I could tell). One connection for data and one connection for power. Too much juggling ports for me, especially when there are drives that can use the same port for data & power.

Recommended for laptops only!
Just purchased this drive, so not ready to rate reliability/longevity. But one annoying thing: item details say it works with laptops and desktops. The data cable is a little over a foot long, which is way too short to reach the rear USBC port on my mid-tower from either my work table or the floor. The only level place it will reach is the top of the computer case, which is not a good place due to (1) heat from the CPU and (2) risk of falling. I asked the manufacturer if a longer cable would work, and they did not know. Update, July 20: Ordered a 1-meter micro-USB cable (made for external HD), and it does not work. So will have to find a suitable footstool, or just give it away.

Don't Go Too Cheap Like Me!
I saw all of the reviews for the Roofull drives and bought one with the bundled case. My HP laptop's type A super speed ports don't have enough amps to run these drives. That took me a little while to figure out. They work just fine with the type C port. I plugged this one in, Windows installed the driver, and I could see it immediately in the Device Manager. The cable is not permanently hard wired like the Roofull, it's longer, and allows more flexibility. I put a CD in and Windows Media Player immediately began playing it. I like to rip the many CDs that I own and put them on my phone. The Roofull kept giving me errors every time I ripped one, and even after meticulously cleaning them. I decided that the optics were just too buggy to deal with on the Roofull, and returned it. Maybe I had a bad one, but I was finished with it. I liked the NOLYTH because of the many features that it offers, including a separate power port and cable. The case it comes with is much nicer and the drive looks much more sleek. I burned the Aerosmith CDs with no errors like the Roofull drive kept throwing at me. They ripped in under 3 minutes. That doesn't seem slow to me. I haven't used any of it's other capabilities yet, but it has been working well with what I have done with it. It has two USB type A ports on it and can be used as a hub, in addition to the SD TF slots. It cost me about $12 bucks more, but it was money well spent so far. UPDATE: As noted in other reviews customer service is responds relatively quickly from China.
