I have oxalate kidney stones and locating protein bars low in oxalates is a huge challenge because high oxalates are found in almonds and cashews and to a lesser degree in peanuts. Those ingredients are rampant in most protein bars. These Mezcla bars are the best I have found that fit my dietary needs. They are based a pea protein (a BIG pass for folks with pea protein allergies!). They taste excellent, are light but filling, are crunchy but they don't crumble easily, are reasonably priced and are within normal limits calorie count wise for protein bars. There are trace amounts of almonds in the Mezcla bars but that can be counteracted with small amounts of dietary calcium ingested at the same time as these bars. I use lactose free milk - 4-6 ounces. The calcium in the milk binds with the oxalates in the almonds in the GI tract and are expelled via the colon. Using this dietary calcium/oxalate binding process, oxalates are not absorbed into the bloodstream and won't accumulate in the kidneys. The protein bar companies, even one of the expensive high end "designer" versions pushed by a certain famous former plate head/ movie actor/ politician that are $4-$5 each are loaded with almonds, cashews and peanuts and that company refuses to post oxalate levels. More aggravating is that NONE of those "designer" companies have disclosed oxalate contents in their descriptions or via multiple direct inquiries from me. They don't answer, I won't buy.

One of the few protein bars that are both nutritionally balanced and delicious. The rice crisp base is the key to avoiding “cliff bar” rubberiness.

I enjoyed the variety box I tried first, but was looking for a box of a flavor that was not chocolate. This Matcha Vanilla flavor works great when I don't want a chocolate flavor. Love the texture and taste of this brand.

Love the taste of these bars. They are easy to carry. I grab one as I am leaving out for work. The ingredients are wholesome and the sugar content is on the lower side. However, the latest batch I received is definitely overcooked or the rice is stale. The bars are very dry, crumbly, and hard to chew. After chewing a bite a few times, my teeth hurt. I won’t return them since it’s I opened the box and tried two of them. Unfortunately, into the trash they go which is a waste of almost $35. I am once again weary of buying food to be shipped on Amazon. JUNE25- the company sent me a refund. Great customer service. I still purchase these bars but directly at Whole Foods now.

I really do prioritize protein because of my workout routine & being vegetarian, however, one day I bought 2 of these at whole foods as a snack and I was SHOCKED from how tasty they are. So while there are other protein bars with more protein content out there (most of them are whey based which is ok for me as I eat dairy), it has been a while since I was so happy to eat my bars and the protein content might be slightly lower than other bars but so does the calorie count, and this is so so worth it. I got three flavors and just placed another order of 3 packs (less than 2 months later as sometimes I had 2 a day), and I am so excited to try the other flavors and restock the current flavors. Really can’t recommend enough, as I rather eat 2 with an extra of 100ish calories and ENJOY EVERY BITE vs eating other protein bars while being miserable. YUMMY!!
