But my Lumix takes good pics, and the replacement LCD was so cheap, it was too tempting to see if I could handle the repair myself.I watched the wordless repair video on Youtube, which was all I needed to see in order to do it myself. I've never done this kind of repair, and I had a 50/50 chance of blowing it, and needing to buy a new camera. But for $14, it was a no-brainer to go for it.You will need a set of tiny phillips screwdrivers, which can be had for almost no money in discount stores. A good set of tweezers comes in handy too, as seen in the video. I also kept a magnet on the table, to keep those tiny screws from disappearing. All of these are items I already owned. You don't need all of them, but you cannot do it without the tiny screwdriver. If the screws are difficult to remove, try a different size screwdriver. When you get the right fit, you'll have less trouble.Two things that vary from the video: There is no longer a plastic film on the new LCD screens. At least, not on the version that I bought from Amazon in January, 2015.Also, the ribbon cable was more difficult to insert than it seemed to be on the video. Maybe that was just a problem for me, but it was tricky. If it gives you trouble, practice inserting the old one a few times. Don't take chances with the new one.I reassembled the camera, fired her up, and everything worked like new. I don't think I spent a full hour at it, including re-watching segments of the video, and trips to my workshop.Definitely try this repair before giving up on your old camera.
