## Description

Over 85% of U.S. households have hard water with high levels of calcium and magnesium salts. Hard water can destroy plumbing and shorten the life of water-using appliances by forming scale. Water heaters in particular are at risk. Mitigating scale build-up can extend the life and efficiency of both tankless and traditional water heaters. Left untreated, hard water can cause significant damage and potentially costly repairs as well as raise energy costs. A general rule of thumb says that 1 mm of scale on a heating-coil can increase energy costs by 15%. The Pelican Water 5 GPM 0.75 in. Water Heater Shield is installed on the feed water line just prior to the water heater (tankless or traditional). The 5 micron filter removes dirt, rust, salt, silt and sediment. Siliphos media within the filter chamber prevents scale and stops corrosion by forming a thin protective layer on the metallic surfaces within the water heater. Filter housings tested and certified by NSF International to NSF/ANSI Standard 42 and 58 for material and structural integrity requirements and are FDA approved. 5 micron filter reduces dirt, rust, silt and sediment particles down to 1/20th the size of a human hair. Filters tested and certified by NSF International to NSF/ANSI Standard 42 for material requirements only. Do not use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after the system.
