It is my first time using it and I am very pleased with it so far. it is a bit pricey for the size, but i got more out of it, than what I paid for it. It really lives up to its name, flat out flat. I’ve always used the polyurethane waterbase matte finish, but sometimes when I would use more than one coat, it would end up with more of a satin look, than a Matte with white streaks. I used 3 coats of the Flat Out Flat on this piece, because i knew I would be using it a lot and it still have a flat look finish and no white streaks. It is easy to use and clean up is easy peezy. Like I mentioned before, I use this piece a lot for cocktail serving, so I’m always spilling stuff on it. Review: This Product Delivers! - I think I found what I was looking for in a FLAT OUT MATTE topcoat for a raw wood ceiling. This is a 50 yr old 2x6 knotty pine T&G with Doug Fir beams that had been originally stained very dark then sanded clean. The sealer had to be brushed on rather than sprayed as it’s a vaulted ceiling and my contractor said it would be a running, dripping mess so it was a pains-taking job but judge for yourself by the included photos. They’ll be other exposed pecky cedar posts & beams in various places in the house and I plan to finish them with this product as well. I really like the look. I really love GF paints, Arm R Seal, and Hugh Performance Topcoat. This was my first time to try Flat out Flat . I will never use it again! It leaves milky streaks on the gel stain. I have had to sand it off of one table four times. I finally had to redo the stain. GF recommended I spray on the Flat on Flat, but the weather isn't going to cooperate and my client wants her dining table by the weekend. **Q: Does it turn yellow on light color paint?** A: I painted my pantry cabinets from a dark red wood to white with chalk paint and sealed them with this and no yellowing. Key is to apply very thin coats **Q: How do I use this product? What does “start by thinning to 5%” mean?** A: I believe I understand it reads "thin as desired with distilled water; start with 5%...up to 10% by volume." This means you may thin it if you like (sometimes it's better to thin liquids a bit when using a paint sprayer, depending on the sprayer). I don't believe you would want to thin it if applying by hand, since it is a very thin liquid and does drip. You must be very careful in your details and corners, to keep wiping so you don't get drip marks (which you can sand out if this happens). Thinning paint to 5 or 10% by volume means just that. If you have 32 oz. of paint and you thin it by 10%, you would add 3.2 oz. of distilled water. If you thin it by 5% this would be 1.6 oz. of distilled water. **Q: Can this topcoat be used over a sandin sealer?** A: I'm not sure what you mean by "sandin sealer." You can use this topcoat over paint and stains. If you have an oil-based paint or stain, I wait at least 72 hours before using the topcoat. If I have a water-based paint or stain, I wait at least 24 hours before putting this topcoat.
