WONDERFUL DVD PLAYER!!!!!
It is with dismay that I hear comments from those who complain about not being able to enjoy DVDs produced for other regions when all they need to do is buy a different DVD player. For under $55 (including delivery), I think this Samsung E360 DVD player is the best! It works with a standard US (NTSC) TV; one does not have to spend the extra hundreds of dollars for a multi-system TV unless they want to view a different standerd TV signal (PAL in Europe, MESCAM in the Middle East, SESCAM in Asia, etc.) Having lived in Europe for many years, I'm a great fan of British programs. Often, these programs are only available in Region 2 format. Some British programs are available in Region 1 format but at a significantly greater cost than the Region 2 originals. I bought one E360 a few weeks ago, simply connected it and it worked beautifully. Then I decided I wanted two more for my other TVs. Through Amazon, I ordered from the Voltage Converter Store again. This time, without any advanced notification, they substituted with E360Ks. Without opening the individual box, I sent an email advising the store of their error and requesting they send the models I ordered - immediately (because technicians were due in a few days to set up new TVs and cable boxes. I am elderly and disabled and cannot install all of these machines alone. I did not want to have to pay for a second visit.) The store merely replied that the E360Ks are all region, supposedly a newer model and have a karaoke capability. (Not all of us aspire to be artistes even in the privacy of our own homes.) Since the store assured me that these were all region, I opened one E360K and struggled to connect it in place of my existing E360 as a test. Failure: the picture was grainy, in black & white and the wrong size. I sent a second email to the store again requesting they immediately send the E360s I ordered. They very curtly - to the point of being rude - replied that the E360K needed 'to be switched to NTSC.' But, they neglected to explain how to do that. The User Manual; which covers the E350, E360 and E360K models; proved to be useless. It says the remote control (there is a different remote for each model) has various buttons (menu, tools, etc.) and that there are numerous different (major) options for setup, display, audio, etc. But, the manual does not list what the individual (sub-) options are or describe what they do. I'm not a technician and do not care to use my time pushing buttons or changing the default settings just to see what happens. Once again, I struggled to connect the E360K. Quite by chance, my very first attempt was successful: After inserting a Region 2 DVD and from the main screen, use the directional arrows on the remote control to go to the settings icon (the one on the far right that looks like a gear) and press 'enter.' The screen then shows a list of items on the left, select (again with the 'enter' button) the top item: 'display.' From the sub-list on the right side of the screen, use the directional arrows to move from 'auto' down to 'NTSC TV' and press 'enter.' (I presume this is because I was connecting the DVD player to a standard US NTSC TV.) The Region 2 DVD then clearly played the proper size picture in colour. The E360 is fitted with a standard US electrical plug (two flat prongs.) The E360K has a continental plug (two round prongs) but a US adapter is included. Combining the two makes the E360K plug longer - over 3'' instead of the 2'' on the E360. This presents a problem if one wants to use a power strip in a narrow shelf (as I do) or if one is concerned about how far out the wires protrude from the wall outlet. As other reviews have said, the remote control is quite compact and, subsequently, the indiviual buttons are small. I often fumble with it; but I wouldn't buy a different DVD player just because of the remote. To insert or remove DVD, a tray comes out of the front of the box. I would much prefer just inserting the DVD into a slot; visions of bending or breaking the tray come to mind. As I stated before, the User Manual leaves a lot to be desired; it needs to give much more information on the various options for customization. As with most manuals, it assumes a certain level of understanding. I do wish these came with a definition of terms, more pictures of the different screens, and always included on how to return to the main menu (select 'enter' again or just wait.) The manual is in English, French and something that appears to be Arabic. My dealings with the Voltage Converter Store were frustrating but I did receive the machines in perfect condition and the very beginning of their delivery window. I would really prefer to have all E360s. But, in view of the time constraints and to avoid further dealings with this store, I have decided to keep the two E360Ks. Samsung's reputation as the best is well-earned. I'm thrilled with the picture quality of this DVD player and, after all, that is what counts.

Good little basic machine that sets up in a snap
I purchased this Samsung DVD player to replace a Sony DVP-SR200P/B DVD Player that only lasted about a year and a half without heavy use. I'm hoping that I will have better luck with this one. So far it is working perfectly and it was super easy to connect to an old TrueTech 19 inch TV/monitor used to watch DVD' s. The remote is smallish but I think it fits well with this player. It measures just under 5 inches long by just over 1 1/2 inches wide. It's a basic remote but then it's a basic machine. It handles anything it needs to do. The buttons are very responsive to the touch. First impressions are that movies load and start playing faster than with the Sony. Setup is just a matter of connecting the included A/V cables to the back of the unit which was clearly marked and to your TV or monitor. Then just pop 2 AAA batteries (not included) into the remote and you're ready to go, simple as that. The compact size of the player (8.2 x 11.8 x 1.7 inches) makes it easy to tuck into small spaces. It has a USB slot in the front where it's easy to access. It plays MPEG-2/4, WMV, and JPEG video formats formats and MP3, Dolby Digital, and DTS Surround audio. It only weighs about 2 1/2 pounds so it's easy to carry or move around. All in all this seems like a good little player that will do everything I need it to do and at a reasonable price. Update 1/22/14 - This DVD player has been working just fine with daily use. No problems at all.

Compact, Reliable, and Perfect for Simple DVD Playback
Compact, Reliable, and Perfect for Simple DVD Playback The Samsung DVD-E360 has been my go-to basic DVD player for years, and it still does exactly what itโs supposed to doโplay discs cleanly and reliably without fuss. The unit is compact, lightweight, and easy to tuck into a small media shelf or bedroom setup. Setup is straightforward: plug in the RCA cables (included), power it on, and itโs ready to go. No HDMI hereโjust standard connectionsโbut the progressive scan output gives a clear, smooth picture on modern TVs. Playback is quick and consistent, with minimal noise from the drive. It handles both commercial and burned DVDs well, and the remote is responsive even if the buttons are small. Iโve also used the USB port to play older MP4 and JPEG files from a flash drive, which works nicely for slideshows or simple video playback. There are no fancy streaming or Blu-ray featuresโthis is old-school simplicity, which is exactly what makes it appealing. Itโs ideal for guest rooms, secondary TVs, or anyone who just wants a straightforward player without menus, updates, or internet setup. Bottom line: A dependable, no-frills DVD player that delivers crisp video and reliable playback. Perfect for those who value simplicity and just want to press play and relax.

Little House...Lots of stress
My mom is the biggest Little House on the Prairie fan EVER. So for Christmas, I did a lot of research and discovered the way to get the "pure" and unedited episodes were to get them imported from Europe. Little did I know that the region number would prohibit me from watching them. We opened them up on Christmas day, and put a disc in the DVD player, sitting on the edge of our seats in excitement...when a screen appeared and told us the DVDs were not the correct region. After doing MORE research, and attempting to hack some other players, I realized the best idea was to just purchase a region-free player online. This one works WONDERFULLY. It's the best little investment I've ever done. I don't have any other DVDs besides 1 and 2, but it plays them perfectly, and we never had any problems. There are a few things that are different than a "normal" DVD player (for example, to open the tray, you have to push the eject button twice--first time simply stops the DVD, the second time actually opens it. Just little "quirks" like that), but nothing that would cause frustration or prohibit you from watching DVDs. If you're like me, and are unsure of how this whole "region thing" works, but know you need a region free player, go with this one. It's a breeze to set up and simple to work. You'll be enjoying your international Little House of the Prairie DVDs in no time.

Noisy, but it works.
As other have mentioned, this thing is very noisy. When a disc first starts spinning up, it is unbelievably noisy. Then once it stabilizes, it quiets down somewhat, but if you're planning on using this unit as a CD music player as we are, it won't work well if your ears will be anywhere close by. We use it for general background music in our living/dining area, and for that it's fine. If we had it in our TV room, it would be always noticeable during any near-quiet times in the movie. The more expensive DVD player we have there is absolutely silent, as are any others I've ever had, so I have no idea why they couldn't have made this one quiet as well. We use it only for music, and aside from the noise and slow loading, it works fine. The remote is, again as many others have said, way too small. How much more would a standard size remote have cost? Only the price of an extra half-ounce of plastic, since the innards would still be the same. It would also have been nice to have the oft-used "Play" button in its own spot, or at least not have it be identical to all the other miniature buttons we'll never use. Bottom line: For less than $30, it does the job intended. At any higher price that that, I would have returned it. We have lots of Samsung products in our home and office and have been happy with all of them. This one is a surprise. UPDATE AND DEATH REPORT: 11/27/2014. This unit has now been in service for what, two weeks? By "in service," I mean two or three hours of use two or three times since new. Tonight I plugged an MP3 player into the USB port, clicked the appropriate button on the remote and hey, it started playing the MP3 player straight away. Nice chill music for our Thanksgiving dinner. It worked for about half an hour. Then it stopped playing. I tried to restart it, but it kept on playing the same tune over and over. At the same time . . . Some time during the MP3 play, the left channel quit. I didn't know if it was the DVD player, the MP3 player or the receiver/amp the Samsung was plugged into, so I tried the tuner. Both channels worked. I disconnected everything from the Samsung and plugged it all in as I did when I first connected it. like a full reboot. No left channel. Then I plugged a portable CD player into the same RCA jacks on the receiver/amp that I had used for the Samsung, and both channels worked. Sufficient testing, I think. So I must revise my original rating down to one start, but only because I have to leave one. I'm really disappointed in Samsung for putting out this product. Like hey, you guys priced it. Your reputation is at stake. I've bought a lot of Samsung electronics and appliances, but after this, not so sure any more.

DVD plays fine; remote control is poorly designed
I've got 3 of these machines for my different TV's. The price is good, their function is also and once you have a multi-region player you'll wonder why you lived without one for so long because it just opens up a whole new world of DVD's you can't get in USA/region 1 format. But the remote control is...a disaster. It is not rectangular shaped like they usually are. Someone decided to shape this one like a 'teardrop', round at the end you point at the TV and pointed on the back end in the palm of your hand. What this new shape does is make it hard to 'grip' the remote and it often 'squirts' out of your hand because you can't grab the pointed end. On top of that, the buttons are very small and not that logically laid out. So while I give the player an '8' the remote rates a '2'. Surprising given that its Samsung and they make quality electronic stuff (all 3 of my TV's are Samsung) but the remote here--is a total flop.

Awesome Little DVD Player
Much like some of the other reviewers, I kept looking at different Multi-Region DVD players and agonizing over which one to buy. It was tough because the reviews and ratings were so mixed but I'm glad I chose this one. The price is right and you just can't ask for more. It takes seconds to set up and I have no complaints about the remote or how it works. The picture quality is great and it's doing what I need it to do: Play Region 2 DVDs. I was also impressed on how fast it got here. Bottom Line: If you're on a budget, this player is for you. (Honestly I can't see paying more money for another player that does the same exact thing.) It's simple, lightweight, and works like it's suppose to. As long as I take care of it, I'm hoping it'll last me a long time.

Compact Samsung DVD-E360
This Samsung DVD player is a perfect size if you don't have a lot of room to place it next to your TV. Very easy to operate and the quality of the picture has always been good. I have small hands so the tiny remote is no problem for me as some have mentioned in their reviews. Also it does seem that the motor has gotten a little louder after about the third movie we watched. Once you have started your movie and the sound is on then you can't hear the motor sound. We have watched a total of about a dozen movies and the motor sound is still the same but all functions are working properly. I am giving it a 5 star rating as long as this motor sound does not lead into problems in the future. Other than that it's a great player for the price.
