I really like this design concept. The white screen part fits very snugly into the black part with friction only, which seems to work well - though I'd probably have thrown a screw into the white flange to be sure it doesn't fall out in the winter. The black body has wings that you squeeze with your hands when you put this up into the hole, and then expand back out to hold it in place, works pretty well. The black body is not 3 inches in diameter, more like 2-3/4 inches. This wasn't an issue for us because we had flex tubing, if you're using rigid tubing this might be a problem. Finally, we didn't end up using the white part because it restricted the air flow too much. The screen is just too fine. It cut about half the airflow. I ended up using the old cap from the vent we were replacing, modifying it to fit the black part. It wasn't perfect but worked much better. The old vent cap used screen door material, which let a lot more air past. I'm not saying this is bad, or that you will need to do this. And, maybe you want a finer screen to keep out certain insects. For us, airflow was more important. I'm giving 4 stars because the diameter isn't what is stated and the screen is too restrictive, but still like the overall concept.

Looking at the marketing pictures, it would be fair to assume that the bug screen portion of this item can be removed at one's leisure. Update: you can remove the screen if you are very careful. This is important for determining the optimal exhaust flow necessary for the exhaust generating machinery such as a dryer or air conditioner as the screen impedes a certain amount of airflow. You may want to consider one size bigger for your installation and install an expanding diameter of duct if you plan on keeping the bug screen. For example, for a 6 inch air con exhaust, the 8 inch unit sold here would provide better air exhaust than the 6 inch unit with the bug screen choking 20-30% of the exhaust.
