Highly Recommended: N30 ESP32 LoRa V3 – Great Range & Real-Time Data Display

The media could not be loaded. I tested the Meshnology N30 ESP32 LoRa Version 3 with OLED display, and it exceeded my expectations. Here’s why I recommend it:✔ Long-Range Performance:• Transmitted temperature data over 0.9 miles at 14dBm (25mW) (1.4km) real-world testing (with trees/buildings).• In direct line of sight, you can achieve up to 7 miles at 20dBm (100mW), —perfect for remote monitoring.✔ Easy to Use:• Built-in OLED screen displays real-time data (temperature, humidity, etc.).• USB-C charging and 1100mAh battery (included in some packages) for portability.• With ESP32 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth microcontroller, you can use it for any other applications• Works with Arduino IDE—Robojax’s YouTube tutorial simplifies setup and coding.✔ Versatile & Secure:• Transmits text, sensor data, or even images via LoRa (SX1262 chip).• Built-in encryption ensures secure communication.• Optional external antenna for extended range.✔ Test Results:• Receiver battery lasted 24+ hours; transmitter runtime depends on power settings (lower dBm = longer life).• Temperature triggers worked flawlessly (e.g., LED alerts when temps exceed thresholds).• Watch Robojax’s video for full range tests and sample code—it’s a goldmine for beginners!Pro Tips:• For max range, set TX power to 20dBm (100mW) in the code.• Buy the battery/case combo for portable projects.• Use Meshtastic or LoRaWAN for mesh networking.Ideal for: Weather stations, agriculture, industrial IoT, or secure data transmission. A must-buy for LoRa enthusiasts!

Heltec V3 LoRa dev boards are the best entry to learning about LoRa radio

Great entry point for learning about LoRa radio communications. The prices have gone up a few dollars since I purchased these boards but it's still worth buying again.I haven't seen any other Meshtastic nodes in this area but communication between devices is great. The included antennas have a range of maybe a mile but there are plenty of antennas that are compatible with these boards. Just make sure the antenna is actually tuned for lora or the board could be damaged. Also make sure the antenna connector is properly seated or this can also brick the board.I can confirm the Adafruit Ultimate GPS works with this board so similar GPS modules will most likely work with this board when connected to the uart serial pins (RX and TX). The two pack Heltec V3 LoRa boards with batteries is really the best way to get started. The onboard battery charge controller works great for charging a single 18650 lipo so far. These boards can also be powered from a smartphone's USB C charging port with a USB type C to A cable. The Meshtastic app has a feature which can utilize the smartphones GPS if a module is not present.I found the Meshtastic app to be the best way to get started with these boards. It provides great examples for using all the available pin functions. There's a similar app called meshcore but I haven't tried it yet. The boards can also be reprogrammed with the Arduino IDE.So the Heltec V3 LoRa dev boards are a lot of fun and quite powerful for the cost. I highly recommend starting with this low cost board before some of the more expensive options. While the tech has been out for a few years a lot of people that don't even understand how wifi functions so don't be disappointed if you don't see any other nodes. It just means you need buy more nodes to support your personal mesh. There are a lot of videos and learning resources available and there are also plenty of free 3D printed case designs available on printables, thingiverse, and other sites. Just search for Heltec V3 and Meshtastic cases.

Good starters for Meshtastic / Reticulum. Board is great. Case doesn't fit a battery :/

Great item for starting in Lora mesh projects. Both worked well, no issues. Good price. These were version 3.2.The only comment to make is that these cases are not big enough to fit a battery.I would get the other case on amazon that can fit a battery.https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DPKSKDTT

Easy to use tool

Great compact and easy board to use. Multiple battery options. It's great it comes with its own case. Most companies don't offer one. I haven't had it fail on me. Functions great once you set it up.

Great Way to Get Started With Meshtastic!

As a newcomer to Meshtastic, this was a simple and affordable way for me to begin my journey down the decentralized comms rabbit hole beyond ham and GMRS radio! I literally had both nodes open, assembled, flashed, and operating within 30 minutes of opening the package. The included enclosures are super compact and simple but effective. I have excellent BT and RF range with the included spring style antenna. Additionally, I purchased separate external 1100mAh batteries that can plug in/piggyback and provide about 8 hours of run time in the event of a power failure and/or until I could connect a larger power bank via USB-C.I am VERY happy with this purchase and would highly recommend for anyone wanting to test the waters of LoRa and Meshtastic comms as an alternative communications means.

Cases didn’t fit.

Cases supplied did not fit the item with battery. Otherwise seems to work great.

Nice kit but do yourself a favor and get one with a different case

For my first mesh node I love the ease of buliding.Setup was a minor pain but eventiually got it going. The battery ( or any battery ) wont fit in the case, but one could velcro or sticky tape it.Not completely dissappointed in the case but it could be better and hold a battery as the battery did come with the kit.
