Great item love it.
This is a fantastic method for hydrating your plants without overwatering. Just make sure the material makes contact with the roots; then, place water in a saucer or container, ideally keeping the water level as close as possible to the roots so that the water can flow easily and keep both the roots and the soil moist. This works well for plants that are already established in the pots. However, if you are just about to planter in a pot or transplant, it is even easier: simply lay the strip over the roots, thread it through the drainage holes at the bottom of the pot, and cover everything with your potting soil. And just like that—problem solved! It is very easy to use, incredibly convenient, and—best of all—extremely affordable. You get a generous amount of material—enough for plenty of plants. I am absolutely delighted with my purchase and highly recommend it!

Perfect for tomatoes
Works great. Using them for about 20 tomatoes (2 strings to each plant) and in all the years I’ve grown tomatoes they have never looked better. If you don’t have this, you NEED this!

LIFESAVER for your indoor forest
If you’re looking at this products, it’s because, like me, you have a few plant babies, some of which are either too meaningful, too large or let’s face it, too EXPENSIVE to die! Listennnnnnn!!!! I buy a ton on Amazon and I rarely leave reviews, but hear me when I say, this simple “string” is THE TRUTH! I have TWO Thai Monsteras, an Anthirium Michelle, A Ring of Fire, an African Milk etc., ie plants that I just can’t buy again without spending $$$. Of course I also have many others (approx 30) that call me mum. I needed to travel last minute for two weeks and it was paining me to think that my babies would suffer while I’m away. I searched and searched for options and the reviews on some of these contraptions (globes, water bottle slow drip terra cotta bla bla) gave me anxiety. And then, and thennnnn friends, I saw this. This STRING! The educator in me was curious and doubtful and hopeful all at once! I bought it. And after two weeks the only thing I needed to replace was my table cloth and its plastic cover! Dead plant where?!? Dry plant where?!? It’s honestly the SIMPLEST thing! For me, I put the majority of my plants on dining table and filled up 3 large containers with water. I arranged them to my best thoughts, though when I do this again I will tweak a bit. I measured enough string to have it lay flat in the bottom of the container and be able to make a “c” in the pot, that way I could ensure the bulk of the dirt was moist. I then pre soaked each string, arranged it in the pot and left the other part in the container with water. The string functions well and retains water quickly. And for two whooooole weeks this was enough for my babies! DRY PLANT WHERE?!? DEAD PLANT WHERE?!?! For the most part, soil was moist, not wet but in the smaller plants/containers, you could tell they were watered. I did come back to one container dry but I think it’s because I designated too many plants to it as the other two still had water left. I plan to reuse, hopefully they can get more than one use. I really wish I had taken photos, but hey, take this old 40something at her word. This STRING is all you need. Well buckets of water too 🙃

No instructions/poor packaging but seems durable
I’m sure it’ll work but was odd that it was literally a wad of string shoved in a bag lol. No packaging, no instructions (which I don’t need). Just odd choice of packaging. Arrived quickly and appears of good quality. Would buy again when needed. But for someone who is new to plants, instructions would probably be beneficial.

Works just like advertised.
This rope is great for bottom of orchid pots. Just keep area under pot wet rope moves water up to bottom for roots. I never water just keep rope wet and mist every morning.

Not for amateurs
This wick cord soaked up all the water provided at once and overwatered my plant. I may not have set it up correctly but I do not recommend if you aren't familiar with how they work. Three stars given because it could have been user error.

Appears to work.
Appears to work. Just running to see how much water it drinks at the moment.

Really works. Fun but tricky. Practise first before use it on a real plant.
This self-watering wick cord truly works —easy to set up but just as easy to get wrong without proper preparation. If you’re new to using self-watering wicks, I highly recommend dedicating at least three days to understanding how it works and adjusting it to suit your needs. Reading the instructions carefully is crucial. I ordered a thick cord, and as a thoughtful bonus, the package included a thinner cord, which turned out to be extremely helpful for my setup. The effectiveness of the wick largely depends on your environment and how closely you follow the instructions. In my case, living in the hot and slightly humid climate of Australia (30–36°C), I found that the wick delivered water too quickly for my small plant, which only requires 120 ml per week. To address this, I experimented with the included thinner cord. Here’s what worked for me: I tested the wicking process by transferring water between two containers rather than directly watering my plant. By gradually adding ***tight*** knots to the cord (ensuring the knots remained above water), I managed to slow the water flow to an ideal rate. Once I was satisfied, I replaced the receiving container with my plant pot. If the water transfer rate is too slow without any knots and you want to deliver water faster then you may need to use a thicker cord or multiple cords simultaneously. Testing your setup thoroughly before using it with real plants—especially if you’re preparing for a holiday—is essential. Although I was tempted to deduct a star for the tricky initial setup, I realised that this would be unfair. Much like a great guitar in the hands of a beginner, the potential of this product shines only when you take the time to learn how to use it effectively. For me, this cord is a 5 stars.
