Exploring Computer Hardware is a wonderful and easy to read book. It covers all the possible hardware that you may encounter at a job or need for yourself. It also covers some non-hardware topics that are important for understanding the hardware it covers. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone planning to buy computer equipment for home or office. For those who are not computer experts it will help you to know what you need and what you are looking at in the store or on the Internet. However, even experts will benefit from all this information in one place. The book is very visual, far better than the average ‘illustrated guide’. The author has video demos for every chapter on the website. At the same time, he does not overload you with jargon and minute details that only an expert would love. Even I, after 25 years of programming, learned much from this book. The one complaint I have is the index. It has noticeable gaps in it. When I find a good book like this, I tend to keep it as a reference. A very complete index is important to be able to use a book that way. On the other hand, the author himself more than makes up for that problem. I have read many books where the author offers his e-mail address and invites readers to write to him. I have never had anyone respond to my emails --until now. Mr. Wilson has responded promptly to all my emails. He has also sent me supplementary materials about topics I wanted to learn more about. The book by itself would get a four-star review from me. However, an author who cares about his readers and respects them enough to respond to them --that is worthy of five stars.

The videos on the resources are also a great bonus. Overall, this book is a great for anyone looking to learn more about computer hardware. Highly recommend!
