Great heat protection
I have an older vehicle without carpet from the factory. I am using this insulating carpet to protect the cabin area from heat from the engine and exhaust system. The shiny metal side goes toward the heat source which you are trying to block, and the carpet side faces the passengers. When cutting to fit, small bits of the carpet material will get everywhere, so it may not be a good idea to cut this inside the vehicle. This heat insulating material works very well. There is only sheet metal protecting my feet from the back of the engine and the floor gets very, VERY hot. I am using this as carpeting and it helps to block both extra noise and most of the heat. I can now drive with bare feet if I wish. A great value vs buying at local auto parts stores.

Keeps the heat out very well. Decent sound insulator.
I used this to keep the heat from transmission tunnel and shifter hole out of the cabin. It works very well on the and I don't feel a lot of heat coming from there even after 3 hours of driving and AC turned of later. It keeps the sound away from the cabin as well but only as effective as the fabric material found under the car carpet in most cars. Not as effective as Mass Loaded Vinyl. It's a bonus feature in addition to heat insulation. The coverage is just enough for two front seats and transmission tunnel in most cars. Will need to buy two if you want to use it under back seats as well.

Hard to find item and seems to be a pretty good insulator.
My neighbor had a Masterbuilt Elite propane smoker that he hated because it ran too hot. I converted it to electric with a heating element ordered off Amazon. Problem then was that it wouldn't get hot enough, only about 180. It is a large smoker with only the door insulated. This insulation was the only thing I could find that looked like it had a chance of working. I insulated the outside of the smoker with the felt side inward. The piece size was large enough to insulate the sides, back, and a double layer on the top (plus a nice sized piece left over). I used Rutland high temp sealant to adhere the insulation. It stuck very well to the "felt" side. After the sealant cured we started up the smoker. Within an hour the temp was up to 250. It was a warm day but I'm very comfortable with attributing at least 50 degree increase to the insulation. The smoker has been used several times and works great. I consider this to be a very reasonably priced item, and was pleasantly surprised at the quality for the price. The felt is tough as nails. The only good way I found to cut it was with heavy scissors along with resharpening them a couple of times. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is that the foil side seems a little fragile and I don't know how long it will stand up. My neighbor has a cover for the smoker and uses it religiously so I'm expecting it to last quite a while.

Worked great as a custom hoodliner on my truck
Bought this to cover up my trucks now chewed up stock hoodliner, thank you small creatures! I looked into a new hoodliner but they are over $100 and my experience has been, it will just get chewed up again (but they don't like the silver foil covered stuff!)! I was going to go with a dynamat brand hoodliner as that is what I used on my car when that hoodliner got chewed up but they don't make one big enough for my truck? So I came across this one and looked like it would fit. I took out my original hoodliner and traced , cut and punched holes. Went pretty well, I used very cheap scissors which if I had used nicer ones it would have gone better. Overall it looks nice and hopefully the small creatures will leave this one alone? UPDATE 1/13/2015: after having this one for a while now I will say that it has worked well and for the most part the small creatures don't like it. They have tried to "eat" in from the sides a little but overall it is intact. Yes the don't like the foil part, they just steal a little of the backing!

Great product! Great Price!
I restored the carpet on my Land Cruiser. Originally they put a recycled material with similar properties as an underlay, so this was a logical option. I looked into some other products, but I couldn't justify spending so much money on the hype. This was very affordable alternative. It offers better sound protection than the original material, and the aluminum backing helps to reduce temperatures inside. A plus in this Texas summer heat. All I had to do was trace out the original pattern, cut, and spray adhesive the back with the aluminum side facing down. Very happy with the results.

Seems to do the job, but be sure it will fit the application for which you intend it.
Wish I had 3.5 as an option. This was not the product I was expecting, but when I went back and re-read the description, that was mostly my fault. I was going to use it on the roof of my truck when I had to re-fabric the headliner. This is not self-adhesive and the fleece material is pretty think. It states two layers of foil, but I either don't see that, or they are two very thin layers of foil bonded together to make one thin foil layer. This is definitely a better choice for under the floor carpets or side panels. Overall, it is fairly think so you either need to be replacing something or have the room for the extra thickness. In my use, the foam on the back of my headliner had deteriorated, so I had to remove some of that which gave me to install this material. There is definitely a reduction of road noise through the roof and some heat insulation (West Texas). It worked for my application with some modification and a specific adhesive.

Heat Shield 25070
I was not sure on which heat shield to purchase. I was replaceing an original heat shield on a 1966 Corvair and ir was in bad shape. I had been looking for about a Month and decided to go with this one. I was very pleased and am glad that I went with this one. Very easy to install and looks good. I used a spray on adheisive and worked very well. I would also recommend having sharp scissors to cut this stuff. Thanks

Will not buy again. The reflective aluminum is literally ...
Will not buy again. The reflective aluminum is literally falling off as I install this stuff. No way any carpet is going to stay glued to it.
