DVB502 256GB SSD Freeview HD Set Top Receiver Box - Twin Tuner HDMI 1080p TV Recorder with EPG, Timeshift Pause/Rewind - Not Compatible with Satellite Internet

A good Freeview tuner/recorder, for this price-point. Very impressed that this uses an SSD drive for recording. (Solid state, Not spinning HDD which don't "live" as long in my experience). All menus are easy to use. Picture quality also very good. Pause time on live TV was impressive, but depends on drive capacity remaining, of course. It doesn't let you rewind instantly, unless paused first. A minor here. And yes you can watch a channel when recording another, but you need to input the channel to watch another channel, as the EPG is not available when recording. Also, if recording a film, divided by some "news", ask it to record the other part ! Only minors, and depending what you are used to. This is a good box for me, in my months of use.

Ordered for my gran. Neat, good picture and sound quality. Slightly more complicated for her than her old one, but I find it reasonably straightforward. Records well.

This is my personal experience of the August DVB502. It may be unique or could be something that other potential purchasers should be aware of. I purchased the August DVB502 Freeview HD Set Top Receiver Box as a replacement/enhancement to an IRiver Set Top Box that was working correctly. The IRiver product had a limited recording facility, whilst the DVB502 has an enhanced recording facility. I have an older Panasonic television with a SCART connection but no HDMI . When I connected up the DVB502 Set Top Box via my existing SCART lead, the picture was black and white. It had been colour with the IRiver product. When I disconnected the DVB502 and reconnected the IRiver set top box, the picture reverted to colour. I contacted the August support service and was advised that the support service believed the problem was likely to have been with a faulty SCART lead. I purchased a new SCART lead from Amazon and repeated the set-up. Again the picture from the DVB502 was in black and white whilst the picture from my original IRiver set top box was in colour. I went back to the August support service and received the following: "I can not provide further suggestions for alterations to the current set top box in order to allow for the colour otherwise. I can therefore only suggest that the product is returned at this time following the Amazon return procedure." I returned the August DVB502 Freeview HD Set Top Receiver Box the following day.

Initially I tried a much higher sized USB drive and it went crazy, rebooting and rejecting settings. At the 32gb level all those problems vanished. The EPG only shows one channel at a time, but is clear and setting a recording is easy. If you need to expand on the start and end times of a recording press the blue button and easily change the times. Recordings via a USB pen drive can be used on a computer. Unlike some PVRs works well with recording radio files as well. Excellent help available by email and was given very prompt replies. The USB Drive should be formatted NTFS. A neat package and at the price it is very good value for money

Nice box and easy set up. Set for Hard of Hearing as husband is profoundly deaf. Watching live tv subtitles worked fine but when we recorded a programme no subtitles on playback. Contacted the support via email and was told can't guarantee subtitles on recordings! The programme recorded is always subtitles so definitely should have had in recording! Sent back as not fit for purpose. Very disappointed! Got a Manhattan box instead which does provide subtitles recordings.

Just got this last night and I'm annoyed at it already. When you are recording something it prevents you from accessing the epg. Also it flashes rec on the screen. There is no series link. If you select something to record then it moves back to the start of the day. The epg has gaps in it. If you pause it and watch the program behind then you can't turn go into the epg to record. If your watching TV and want yo scan the guide then it changes the channel. Picture doesn't seem very good either it's OK but just OK. Set up was OK. Remote is abit cheap and nasty.

Wow what an amazing piece of kit. When we moved to sky glass we lost the ability to record programmes and couldn't access talking pictures and rewind TV. So I checked this little box out all you do is plug the TV Ariel and off you go total Freeview and the build in storage to record programmes a week in advance. Great price and a great product 5 stars.

Works well but not easy to navigate the menus until you get used to it. I can’t find away to automatically record a series so have to use a timed recording and hope that the schedules don’t change.

Compte tenu du prix, je m'attendais à un appareil basique. Je viens de l'acquérir pour remplacer un Samsung très sophistiqué tombé en panne. Et bien, très agréablement surpris : le disque dur contient plus de 80 heures d'enregistrements. Il se programme grâce au guide ou manuellement, il enregistre aussi en direct et en décalé. Il n'a bien sûr que les chaînes gratuites de la TNT en HD mais ça me suffit largement pour voir mes films où émissions en zappant la PUB. Quelques problèmes avec la notice mal lisible et peu claire. La télécommande trop petite pour mes gros doigts et ses repères en anglais. Satisfait dans l'ensemble.

Article très intéressant fonctionne très bien

Très surpris de la prise en mains de ce petit boîtier, le manuel est parfait j'ai fais des essais conclusions rien a redire ,vous programmer et regardez ou en programmation.direct et regardez une autre chaîne impect. On peut effacer chaque enregistrement et la qualité d'image est très net. Grâce au disque dur interne évite de payer sur certaines box pour enregistrer un programme. Content de mon achat . Amazon à trouvé une perle....
