Don't put too much pressure on it
As with all cast iron hinged mechanisms, it could break if too much pressure is applied, but mine did not. A simple trick that I use, is microwave each ball 8 to 10 seconds then press. They flow out easily. I uses a pie crust mix for empanadas and it works great.

Easy tortilla press
This is an excellent press! Non stick and has a good weight to it. Makes perfect tortillas! Never made them from scratch before because I didn't want to hand roll them because of my hands, but this tortilla press works wonders! Want better tasting, fresh and healthy tortillas without non pronounceable chemicals? Buy this press, you will not be disappointed!

Great relative price.
Nice weight and much easier than trying to roll homemade tortillas. I see reviewers complaining about the cast iron breaking. That's a danger with cast iron. Rather than trying brute force to flatten, try some finesse. • Press (there's a natural stopping point) • Turn tortilla 180° press to natural stop • Turn tortilla 90° press to natural stop • Turn tortilla 180° press to natural stop Results in nice thin and round tortilla without fuss.

Heavy Duty, Use it Frequently
Very happy with the quality and finish of this tortilla press. The bolts holding the handle and press lid are sloppy and don't really fit well, but I changed these out to make the press look/work better. Use this press weekly to make corn tortillas and gorditas. Works great. Nice and heavy. I expect this to last a lifetime. Minus 1 star for the cheap floppy nuts and bolts. Still a great deal for the price.

not cast iron. it is die cast aluminum
DO NOT BUY. (not cast iron) it is die cast aluminum- weak metal. imitation of cast iron to sell. We purchased this thinking it is heavy duty due to most reviews and description of it being cast iron. upon getting this, it seemed good and worked well for a month. today, typical morning wife is making tortillas and product lever snapped off and hurt my wife’s hand in the process. we are just outside the return window. make yourself a favor, dont buy this instead invest a bit more on a better quality product and real cast iron not imitation. this product may seem good on the outside but it is not cast iron. it is die cast aluminum, discovered that when it snapped and looked at the metal inside without the coating. we make tortillas every single day throughout the day and have for years, this purchase was a mistake and regret. now im off to buy quality even if i pay double.

Nice press
Very nice unit. No directions or instructions tho. Easy to put together (just the handle needs installing). Made of cast and heavy duty.

Authentic Tortilla Maker
This heavy-duty cast-iron press makes it so easy to get perfectly thin tortillas. It’s a permanent staple in my kitchen now. We always have fun making tortillas with this press, and it is easy to clean when done.

Updated: Heavy duty tortilla press. Warped or uneven.
It arrived quickly and in very good condition. It's very heavy and came unassembled. Assembly was easy enough by just unscrewing the bolt, sliding it back through the handle and reattaching the nut. Obviously use common sense on this because it did not come with instructions. Opening up the unit I noticed that there were some imperfections. This is typical of cast iron work anyway so it's not a big deal. It had some small holes and some protrusions. These may cause tortillas to stick so I would suggest using paper to press your tortilla dough in. The top plate measures 7 1/8 inches The bottom plate measures 7 3/8 inches. It also has two lift tabs on either side of the top plate. That's good for left or right handed people. Looking at it through the profile I noticed that it has a slight gap that goes all the way through. That is perfect. That way you don't squish your tortillas so thin that they're unusable. The outer coating seems to be a little bumpy. I'm hoping it will not flake off after continued use and cleaning. But since I'll be using paper to press my tortilla dough in I don't think it matters. Unless of course you're one of those folks who really get upset on the appearance of your appliances. It weighs 4.6 lbs. so after eating all those delicious tortillas you can use it for an exercise weight. The box says that the press is made in China or maybe it's the box that's made in China, I'm not sure. Other than that it appears to be a heavy duty tortilla press. I'm very happy with the purchase and the price point. I'm looking forward to using mine tonight. UPDATE: Okay so I used it and I had some problems with it. It is warped. It flattens and squishes on one side to the point of unusability. And on the other side it remains thick and not flattened. It looked more like a wedge door stop. After making six or seven tortillas all resulting with the same squish resulting in something that look more like a smear on the same side, I gave up. I ended up going back to my old 6-in press. I wouldn't be able to say that all of them are like this but this one certainly is warped. It does not give you an even press. Not even if you turn the tortilla after pressing it the first time carefully. You'll just end up with more sides smeared. It was too much work and too much trouble.
