For the new, younger digital coders
My son in third grade has just started to scratch the surface of some coding. He’s done a class that used Lego and an app. This book was a good next step for him. From his Lego coding class he’s familiar with the concept. I think for this book that helped. Although I do feel like this is a good beginner introduction. The steps are clear and it’s an easy to follow resource. Overall it’s an excellent choice for young learners dipping into digital coding.

My kids love scratch and this book helped them dig deeper!
Ordered this for my two tweenage kids (13 and 14) who are both very interested in scratch and very VERY interested in video games. This book was great at getting them to dig a little deeper behind the tiles/block programing in scratch and really understanding the how and why of what they were piecing togeather. Overall a worthwhile purchase to point their video game passion in a productive direction for once!

Great book!
I've been having a lot of fun following this book. I'm currently on the second game. I'm an adult and I have done some coding in the past, but not a lot and I never had good teachers. This book is fun, clear, and easy to follow. It has sidebars that explain concepts in detail, such as bugs or variables or different types of game controllers. It also has a game progress bar at the top of every page which is a great little detail for determining how much you have left to do and how long it may take. The games that you build are completely playable and enjoyable. It really gives a good sense of satisfaction to play your creation when you're done. The concepts taught in each chapter are built on and get harder as you go along, but so far I haven't found anything un-do-able or frustrating.

Too advanced for my 8 year old...
I have an 11 year old granddaughter and an 8 year old grandson, so I ordered this book hoping they would work together on coding some games, but the 11 year old wasn't at all interested and the book is too advanced for the 8 year old to do by himself and this Grandma is not at all familiar with coding, so I cannot be of any help with it either. I'll save it for a while and see if his interest piques and get it out again later on.
