Tamiya Models Vought F4U-1A Corsair Model Kit

I have just finished this Vought Corsair F4U-1A in 1/48 from Tamiya and it has been three weeks of absolute joy. The kit goes together extremely well and I did take the liberty of adding some 0.8mm copper wire for the engine and landing gear. To me I’m used to 1/72 scale model kits and it’s very rare that I have tried the 1/48 scale. I think as long as you take your time. Use YouTube for ideas like adding the wire for example then you can have a model you will be proud of. Yes the wings are a little fiddly and I lost my aerial as stupid me had my bin under my work area. Never to be seen again. I did prime it in black and mottled white in between the panel lines for. Painting some panels differently like they had been used longer or replaced. Then used a cocktail stick with Vallejo aluminium to make a chipping effect to show the aircraft had been used extensively. Overall I’m very happy and proud of the end result. It’s not easy. Will take time and patience. The amount of times I have had daylight outside my studio only to get stuck in and not realised it had gone dark outside are numerous. I would recommend this to moderate model makers. It can be tricky in parts and you’ll need quite an extensive set of modelling tools like an airbrush, decal thinners and small almost micro brushes. The copper wire is a nice touch but not essential. This model is wonderful to make. An absolute joy. Now I’m waiting for my next project the F16 in 1/48 from Tamiya and after this I cannot wait to get started again.

I've not actually built this yet. I have however practice fitted parts for painting and it's lovely. So well designed really looking forward to building it properly

Tamiya F4U-1A corsair is the best on the market.the reason being is fit of the parts are fantastic no filler required just a slight sanding of the seems top and bottom also you can have the wings folded or wings down cockpit is great out of the box just need to had some seat belts as you only get decal ones.you have 2 choice of makings they are printed well but a bit on the thick side so you will need a good decal setter for them to bed down on the aircraft but other from that the kit is fantastic will be buying the other corsairs from Tamiya they are that good.buy one you won't be disappointed.

As usual Tamiya have produced an easy to build great replica of the Corsair. Easy to build and superb fit, highly recommended.

I think parts of this model are used in other variants of Tamiya Corsairs as there are gaps that need to be filled with modelling putty. Also to have the wings deployed you need to drill out some holes. I'm dissapointed that the kit doesn't come with pre-cut masking for the canopy. To paint the canopy frame takes a steadier hand than I possess and pre-cut masking tape would have been very useful Overall the kit went togther well, however I struggled to get the folded out wings to properly match up with the 'inner wings'. I'm not sure if that was down to something I did wrong or of poor molding/fitting ! It took a lot of trail and error and some filler and even after that I'm not happy with the outcome.

Model arrived in excellent condition in a timely manner. Perfect.

Dico soltanto una parola "TAMYA"e non dico altro!

でっかいプロペラを回すのと脚を短くするために逆ガル翼になったらしい。そして、その強烈トルクを解消するために垂直尾翼に細工が成されている。やや右に切れており、また触ってみると厚さが違うのが分かる。こんなところも再現している辺り、地味にスゴい。さすが。

Tamiya quality. Parts fit well and instructions are good. Makes a very nice model but probably not for young kids.

Utmärkt passform, fina detaljer och tydliga anvisningar, men något tjocka dekaler. Tamiya-kvalitet av förväntat slag, således.
