I love this product! I found it in our local Dollar General, and then they never sold it again. I started ordering it here through Amazon as a subscribe and save product. You can even clean it out if you have to (but it’s kind of gross). It is sturdy. For a tub or sink, I have used other products because I am so afraid I am going to drop jewelry (I have before) and I don’t feel like working on pipe to get it out. I’d rather not have to bother the hubby about it either. I’d rather him not waste time trying to fish my jewelry out of the pipes! Lol I just found the tub version by Danco that I probably will purchase this next month with my shipment. The way this item is constructed, the basket is meant to be used with the trim ring. Otherwise the basket may fall down into the drain. The diameter of the top of the basket is 2-1/2 inch. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Stops hair going down the drain, easy to clean, inexpensive, looks good *by �***R on October 19, 2016* This is one of the best things I've bought this year ... and for so little money.We have a big problem with lots of long hair going down the drain and an infrequent giant roach coming up the drain (ick!). The only grate that will fit our showers is a 3 1/4" grate which has 1/4" slats that are large enough for hair and giant roaches to get through.We ended up putting a 2 1/4" mesh strainer under the grate to stop both the hair going down and the roaches coming up. The strainer actually works well, except it's a nasty mess to keep clean. Because it sits a bit lower into the drain, somebody had to remove the grate screws, then use a screw driver to get the strainer out, clean the strainer, and then put everything back.I decided to try this hair catcher even though our drain is not 4", and it is awesome. There are no screws and it fits the drain. It's not a tight fit, but good enough. It could be siliconed in place, if we wanted. The center hair catcher seems to catch most of the hair and is easy to clean.Now, everyone in the household, after every shower, is responsible for lifting up the hair catcher, using a paper towel to give it a quick wipe, and dropping it back in place. Easy.It solved the hair going down the drain, the roaches coming up the drain, the unwillingness to clean the drain, it looks great, and it was inexpensive. Five stars!UPDATE May 2021: Still working good for us. Still using the original basket. Still no need for rotor rooter. Still five stars.UPDATE Aug 2024: Same as above.
