But like Chad said below..... you could have the best reference monitors in the world, but if you're in a square room with NO treatment on your flat surfaces and NO bass traps in your corners..... you're just going to have a mess of frequencies bouncing around and canceling each other out and phasing and boomies, you get those more from running a boom mic for film/video and most of that comes from the handling of the boom pole and the mic cable slapping against the pole! But an untreated flat room with a ton of reverb drowning everything out will make you pull your hair out because you'll never be able to get a good mix!! I would focus on getting control of your room first and if you have $700 to treat your room, then you have way more than enough, depending on the size of your room!? **Q: A lot of people seem to be using these next to a monitor or tv. are they even shielded?!?!? i'd rather not degauss my new 4k tv...** A: What? This is not early 90's device. Have them 5cm of my 27" monitor, notebook, usb hub, wireless keyboard, external sound card ...
