The TWAYRDIO RH-660S is hands down one of the best handheld antennas I’ve used—and I’m not the only one saying it. Josh Nass (KI6NAZ) from Ham Radio Crash Course gave this antenna his top rating in his popular antenna shootout video, and now that I’ve used it myself, I can see why. ✅ Outstanding Performance: I’ve tested this on several HTs including my BTECH BF-F8HP Pro, Baofeng AR-5RM, and even a Wouxun KG-UV9G Mate. It consistently outperforms stock rubber duck antennas, giving better receive sensitivity and longer transmit range, especially on VHF. ✅ Extendable & Portable: The extendable design is brilliant—solid when extended, and super compact when stored. Perfect for keeping in a go-bag or using on the move without a long whip getting in the way. ✅ Decent Build: The construction feels decent, the bnc connector is tight, and the extending joint locks securely. It feels like it will last, even with regular outdoor or field use. ✅ Wide Frequency Range: Works great across the 2M and 70cm ham bands. I’ve also had success with GMRS reception. SWR readings were very reasonable, especially on VHF. ✅ SMA / BNC Compatibility: It is available in both SMA and BNC connector versions. I bough the BNC. It connects easily to most popular HTs using an SMA-Female, SMA-Male connector, or BNC connection. 📌 Pro Tip: Like Josh Nass recommended—if you want serious HT performance, pair this with a quality radio and watch your range and clarity jump significantly. 📌 Pro Tip: You can use an irrigation system riser with caps to store this in our backpack to keep it safe. You can find them on Amazon or on the Google. Final Thoughts: The TWAYRDIO RH-660S offers great performance, with excellent range and a budget-friendly package. Smart extendable design makes it portable while giving you the ability to extend for maximum performance when you need it. The endorsement of one of the most trusted voices in ham radio should provide confidence. If you’re looking for a real upgrade over the standard antenna, this is it. Portable, powerful, and professional. I have bought multiple of these for general use and to store in my emergency radio kits. Highly recommended!

This TWAYRDIO RH-660S antenna performs exceptionally well with my Yaesu FT-60R, though it did require a rubber O-ring to close the gap. Recently, I was even able to listen to transmissions from the ISS with it. I've also tested this antenna on multiple handheld transceivers (HTs), and in each case, it showed remarkable improvements in both receive sensitivity and transmit range. The extendability of the antenna is a standout feature. At its shortest, it measures just 11 inches, making it very compact for storage; when fully extended, it reaches all the way up to 42 inches and remains sturdy. This design works exceptionally well, and it's surprising how few manufacturers offer a similar retractable option. The antenna's performance is impressive across the amateur radio bands. It offers a SWR of 1.06 @ 146 MHz and a SWR of 1.01 @ 446 MHz, indicating outstanding operation on both the 2-meter and 70-centimeter bands. Additionally, it provides clear reception on GMRS frequencies for monitoring. Overall, the TWAYRDIO RH-660S is a super-performing antenna that represents great value for its price point. I’m definitely going to buy a few more to replace the antennas on my other HTs.

Seems to greatly help reception, but I haven't transmitted on it, yet. I'll get to really test it this weekend. However, the BNC connector doesn't seem to be very good and can easily come loose. It's not spring loaded. I am going to find rubber washer (or make one) to put a little bit of back-pressure on the connector so it stays still and doesn't come loose. Feedback of Amazon: loosely packed in a single bubble wrap envelope/bag. Antenna is bent. Pack this in a proper shipping tube or in a box.

All the bad reviews are true. Unfortunately this antenna sucks. Build quality is horrendous. I had the same issue others have had with the BNC connection just simply not working. Unfortunately I can no longer return mine because it completely failed and snapped into 2 pieces instead of seating properly. So unbelievably disappointed. Don’t bother purchasing this antenna.

RH 660S - Performs worse than rubber duck under half its size. SWR super high.
