Es la sucesora de la Biblia Hebraica editada por Rudolf Kittel. A diferencia de las ediciones críticas del Nuevo Testamento griego, la BHS no tiene como finalidad reconstruir el texto original de la Biblia hebrea. Esto no sería posible basándose en los manuscritos disponibles: los testimonios textuales directos de mayor antigüedad son los manuscritos descubiertos a partir de 1949 en el desierto de Judea en las cuevas de Qumrán en el mar Muerto. A excepción de una sola transcripción del Libro de Isaías que se conserva íntegramente, los textos bíblicos de Qumrán consisten exclusivamente en fragmentos en los que en la mayoría de los casos solo se pueden identificar unas pocas palabras seguidas, y a menudo meramente letras sueltas. Hoy por hoy solo se encuentran disponibles testimonios textuales en cantidades significativas de alrededor del siglo III a.C: La primera traducción de la Biblia hebrea al griego, la llamada Septuaginta, se remonta a esta época. Posteriormente otras traducciones antiguas surgieron como testimonios indirectos adicionales, en particular la Vulgata en latín, la Peshitta en siríaco y el Tárgum en arameo. La transcripción completa de mayor antigüedad de la Biblia hebrea que conocemos hoy en día es el Codex Leningradensis, que data del año 1008; de casi unos cien años de anterioridad, pero desafortunadamente ya no completo, es el Códex Aleppo del año 930. Los códices de Leningrado y Alepo representan dos casos destacados y ejemplares del llamado texto masorético, la versión que fue proclamada como definitiva por escribas judíos alrededor de 100 d.C. Habida cuenta de la naturaleza incompleta de los testimonios textuales anteriores al texto masorético, no es posible realizar una reconstrucción del texto original de la Biblia hebrea. Para poder presentar un texto uniforme en una edición impresa, es por lo tanto oportuno presentar el texto masorético, con las variantes respectivas dentro de un aparato crítico, y en combinación con propuestas de correcciones del texto masorético cuando proceda. La BHS, que refleja los hallazgos de más de cien años de investigaciones textuales del Antiguo Testamento, se estructura según este principio. Hoy la BHS se utiliza en todo el mundo y se considera entre todas las denominaciones como una edición altamente fiable de la Biblia hebrea. Proporciona la base tanto para la formación académica como para todas las traducciones bíblicas fidedignas. Excellent printed version of Codex L with massorah parva
Excellent printed version of Codex L with massorah parva. Although the reading of the text of the massorah parva benefits from a magnifying glass - it is excellent for both study and teaching. Dr. David Nicholls, Professor of Old Testament and Hebrew.

This hardback BHS is good quality and worth paying for in hard copy in my opinion. The binding is good and the text size is fine - standard sized.

Fine, but small text
I find the Hebrew a little difficult to read due to the small text, which occasionally blurs the pointing - especially with holems. Otherwise it was fine.

Excellent, handy sized OT
When I was in college I had the "full size" version of this BH, which had a rather rough cloth cover, was a dream to use but weighed a ton. The smaller version here has a clear and perfectly acceptable font size for the body text; if you can cope with the font in the Nestle-Aland NT this BH won't be a problem. It has the added advantage that it is the "standardised" size now issued by Deutsche Bibelgesellschaft, so not only will it form a nice set with your Nestle-Aland and Vulgate but it will slip into your bag with ease and without making you a beast of burden. The NOTES, however, are necessarily in a smaller font which could make it more of a challenge to read the vowel points if your eyesight isn't up to scratch. You'll soon find out if you need an eye test.

Scholarly edition
BHS is a scholarly edition of the Hebrew Bible, also known as the Christian Old Testament. The text is based on the Leningradis codex. It contains pointed Hebrew text with cantilations, masora parva with references to masora magna, masora finalis and critical apparatus. The critical apparatus notes textual variations from all major and significant manuscripts. The introductory chapter has a pretty good discussion of the text and various editions. It's all very useful and handy, making this edition the best value in a single package. It is definitely the text of choice for scholars. It's scholarly content should not detract from student's or a lay reader's experience. The size of the book is standard for text critical editions like Aland's New Testament, LXX, Vulgata or others. Some folks like large fonts for their reading, but that should not be a problem either. BHS has pretty decent size font, except of course for masora parva and the critical apparatus where the fonts are pretty small. But the text itself is pretty reasonable size and readable. I personally rarely read from the book itself, but copy the passages I want to study (either 1:1 or sometimes enlarged) and then take notes on the copied pages. So I would recommend people who need large fonts to do the same. But I would definitely recommend this edition of the Hebrew Bible to anyone. It's a must.

Biblia masoretica
El texto masoretico en hebreo original es la obra que se reunio después que se escribio el nuevo testamento. Dado que para muchos judios Jesus no era el mesias, y viendo que el NT se uso la Biblia griega o de los LXX, hicieron el canon judio. El libro solo tenia consonantes, al agregarse las vocales y en Masora cada copia tenia un conteo de palabras para que no hubiera modificaciones. Sin embargo existe diferentes versiones según el Codice, este usa el de Leningrado. Editado en Alemania por años en Stuttgard. Las letras impresas fueron reconstruidas tras ser destruida la imprenta por los aliados en la segunda guerra mundial. Un libro imprescindible para los cristianos que leen la biblia en hebreo, griego, copto, arameo. O quieren conocer los documentos originales que se basan las Biblias traducidas. La otra es la Hebraica quinta.

La Bibbia Ebraica
Volume fatto benissimo, piccolo ma perfettamente leggibile. Consiglio vivamente di intraprendere lo studio dell'ebraico a chi volesse approfondire il mistero di queste parole e di questa grande cultura.

Sehr schöne, (und vor allem) handliche Ausgabe
Es handelt sich um eine Biblia Hebraica in handlicherem Format. Für den täglichen universitären Gebrauch ist diese für mich die optimale Wahl, da sie von Größe und Gewicht her zumutbar, und dabei trotzdem noch sehr schön und solide verarbeitet ist (Wer sich über längere Zeit mit einem Gesenius, einer Biblia Hebraica und ggf. noch weiteren für das Hebraicum notwendigen Büchern ausgerüstet zur Universität begeben musste, weiß vermutlich, wie sehr einem gerade der Gewichtsfaktor entgegenkommt). Ja, die Seiten scheinen, schon stark durch. Das hat mich auch im ersten Moment etwas schockiert. Ich muss allerdings sagen, dass dies (mich zumindest), gerade beim längeren Lesen überhaupt nicht stört, da man es ziemlich schnell einfach ausblendet. Für mich also in Sachen Biblia Hebraica Ausgabe eine super Wahl.
