Well...I got a load because I have 4 cats who love to....pee....on the sockets. We had a few blackouts when their pee hit the electrics...but...now we are protected...no power cuts sinCE. So kitchen splashes should not be a problem

Does the plug socket have to swiched off when i installing the covers?

It plugs in the same a standard plug . As long as you use the same precautions you would with a wired plug it will be ok. i have on/off switches on all my electric sockets and use rhem. If you can switch off the plug then do so as an added precaution.
