Recommend for cages
Definitely keeps the closure dark for the ferrets. Very easy to use. It's definitely worth the value

Upper scatter gaurd fits ferret nation 183
the top scatter guard works amazing for ferret nation 183 this one was super easy to install and was easy to put on the tray(btw) it's easier to install the panels with the tray outside the cage .. I think I read something that someone was trying to do it while the pan was in the cage.. I'm pleased with the fit. When putting together they're a tab you bend it to help secure it. The bottom scatter gaurd I had a slight issue with the first one Item side gaurds are too big by a half inch to 1/4 inch on the sides can't install it to my pan for my ferret nation 181. some of the pieces were slightly damaged but the boxes are not. Was returned before Im thinking? for the same issue because of the damage on the part that snap together. I ordered another one it was slightly better but still a little too big on the side, it doesn't fit in the pan on one side and sits up causing a gap. Maybe I'll order another and see if I have the same issue for the bottom scatter gaurd. If so I'll probably modify it to fit correctly.

Does the job
This very much does the job I need it to do. It keeps my ferrets from pooping over the edge of the tray since they think they must aim for the sky each and every time giving my newly painted wall a fresh crusty paint job. I do have a couple that pull on the edges and try to get behind it which is a bother, cause the sides come unattached easily. The clips go over and under the tray which is what holds it into place on all sides. The food that they spill out gets trapped under the edges so I have to be sure and lift when cleaning to get all the bits out. And once a week I remove the tray to clean trapped hair and mess behind and under. But the clips catch on the bars of the cage making it difficult to get out. Although I'd rather it be difficult to get out than easy for them to disassemble. I clean the cages daily with a vinegar, bleach and water spray and after time the coating is coming off and it rusts. This is becoming a big issue and I'm worried they are going to lick the rust. May try another option or brand of I can find one. I'm fine with it being flimsy, I just rather it not rust. I have 4 cages so the cost is up there for these. Please find a fix for that. Be sure to measure your tray. It fits well if you do. All in all, I much rather have these than not.

Perfect!
Exactly what I needed for my Ferret nation Midwest cage (I have added hardware cloth to the outside since I have juvenile rats) the shelf is covered with the fleece I use but it's the exact same wire shelf with a plastic tray as what I already had. So now I have the ability to add a 3rd shelf or in my case I use it so I can put the new fleece cover on the shelf in my hand and then make it faster when changing bedding since my curious little rats will try to get in the way if you're not really quick. So whether you are ordering to replace with cleaning or you just need an additional level, it will be the same size and cage side attachment as any ferret nation or critter nation cage. This is the metal support frame work that supports the plastic tray and the plastic tray together as well as super handy ladder clips. I mention this since for my purposes at this time I only needed the plastic tray but I was excited to get both since it gives me more options. I bought my ferret nation Midwest cage used so I have never known about the ladder clips and now I'm hoping I can order a couple of those alone and one replacement wheel. My cage is more than 5yrs old with lots of use (just an idea of durability).

Awkward
Not the most efficient solution to the problem, but it is sturdy. Made of metal, there is now some minor rust at the clips from leaving them wet when I washed them at the garden hose, so make sure you dry it when cleaning. I use a solution of 24 parts water to 1 part bleach (recommended by veterinarians to clean animal items), sprayed on, then rinsed off after sitting for 5 minutes, and it cleaned up easily. There are 4 separate pieces that lock together in a sort of tab and slot construction. They do hold tightly. It is awkward to lift out of the cage because it's heavy, especially when attached to the shelf. Since there is some gapping (can't help that with this design), some debris does slip out when moving it. Still keeps the mess off the floor while it's installed, though. Also, there is a slight angle outward from each piece, so you lose a couple of inches of square space. A better idea would be simply a shelf with taller sides. I bought this to use with guinea pigs (a temporary accommodation). My mouse usually lives in the whole cage, and I don't plan to use it for him now that the pigs are in their proper house and he has all of his floors back. He's not that messy and it's not worth the hassle.

Nope
Don't do it. It isn't worth the money, time or especially the frustration. The instructions are pretty much useless--I spent about an hour trying to make sense of them (and using every curse word I know, plus some I apparently made up just for the occasion) before getting completely frustrated and asking Google for tips. I didn't think there was any possible way I was assembling it correctly as no matter how many times I reread the instructions and rechecked my work, no matter how many curse words I threw at it, or no matter how many live sacrifices I offered it I just could not get the pieces to actually fit in the pan as they are supposed to. And since this product is made by the company that made the cage it claims to be for use with, it made more sense that I was doing something wrong (perhaps my live sacrifices were of the wrong species or the moon phase just wasn't quite right) than that the item just didn't fit the cage and pan. But after checking out a couple of YouTube videos I was reassured that the problem was NOT user error but poor design. There is literally no possible way to put the 4 sides of the scatter guard together and have the assembled guard sit flat and flush with the bottom of the plastic litter pan. One corner of the guard always sits higher than the rest on the lip of the pan instead of resting on the bottom of the pan. Also, the "clips" that are supposed to hold the metal guard pieces to the plastic pan are easy to accidentally break off or mangle beyond use. And since the only possible way the guard can fit in the cage is for the guard to sit mostly inside the bottom edge of the plastic pan some amount of litter will always find its way under the guard in its quest for freedom. It is actually stunning how poorly this item is designed given it is NOT an off-brand accessory. In the end I stashed the pieces of the scatter guard on the bottom shelf of the cage and went to my local national chain home improvement store where I purchased a large cement mixing tub that I coerced into the bottom of the cage. It was cheaper and didn't require any live sacrifices to make work. Do a Google search for Critter Nation Cement Mixing Tub for more information (also it is NOT necessary to trim the mixing tub to get it to fit in the bottom of the CN cage, just work it a bit until it is solidly in and the doors can shut-- to clean just use a dustpan to scoop everything out and wipe down with a pet safe cleanser).

Shelf
Sturdy, exactly like original. My chin was a rescue and came with his cage. He had chewed through corner of his shelf. I had to leave it bc I couldn’t afford a new shelf. He kept chewing it so I put a pillowcase over it. After buying the new shelf, he doesn’t chew and I got rid of the pillow case! Love the new one!

A solution to a problem they created.
The Critter Nation cage itself is fantastic, almost perfect except for the rubbish "tray" it comes with. A tray that allows the substrate to fly off everywhere. This item they have designed to be sold separately for a problem they themselves have manufactured, but it works, and works really well. A little flimsy but your pets (or your negligence) shouldn't break it any time soon.

Perfect!
Perfect for either replacing a shelf in your Critter/Ferret Nation, or just adding an extra shelf.
