A pocket knife can be a tool or a means to defend yourself. If the inmates only purpose for a knife is to open boxes and widdle wood then the non locking with its “balls” removed will be just fine. However due to the nature of smuggling a knife into prison, one can assume they want to use it for defense at which point you’ll need a locking pocket knife. **Q: Can this knife be opened with one hand?** A: While it can certainly be opened with one had, the resistance of it being a slip joint is cumbersome to my fingers. My method of quick-open is just putting my left hand index left finger through the keying and opening the knife by pulling with my thumb and index finger of my right hand on the hole, it opens very easily and quickly this way, as much as any one hand open knife. It is now permanently attached to my keychain now. It has inadvertently been through airport security several times and not been picked up (do NOT do this on purpose!); presumably thanks to its size and shape on the keychain.
