The windows app is pretty terrible, but it does work for a demo. I was able to get a Rpi4 to communicate with this thing via USB after many frustrating hours of shouting into the abyss of ChatGPT. Since then its survived multiple rain storms, and ran a full day's worth of motocross race timing. If they change their documentation to correctly reflect the USB communication protocol it will be much more valuable.

If you're looking for a reader like this, you almost certainly intend to code something to automate it. Unfortunately, and despite the company claiming it to come with an SDK, that SDK is exclusively for Windows. I spent time chatting with their tech support and despite telling them a dozen times that I neither use nor have Windows machines, they insisted that it must be setup via Windows. The documentation is extremely limited. It's also what you would expect. Extremely nuanced EE schematics (that you likely won't need) and then virtually nothing in terms of just getting basic stuff setup. Again, unless you're using Windows in which case you can run their installer and it may work. But you'll then have to support it off of a Windows machine too. I would not recommend this reader. As a side note, the audible beep can also only be configured via their Windows portal. So for the many, many hours I attempted to set it up directly from Linux (using a variety of the connections provided), it would not stop beeping. This seems unnecessary since there is a giant multi-color LED light to provide all of the information necessary. I was tempted to open it up and remove the speaker, but didn't want to jeopardize returning it. Which I am going to.
