Terminator, The (4KUHD/DIG)

I am incredibly happy with this one. The terminator is one of my favorite movies and I know it in and out. However, I just had the standard dvd version. Recently got a UHD player and have been replacing some of my favorites. This one looks REAL good. The majority of the movie takes place at night and overall low lighting conditions, and even then it looks phenomenal. It looks like it was originally recorded in full HD - there is minimal graininess compared to other 4K movies from the era I’ve gotten (ST III). I’ve seen detail that I’ve never been able to pick up on before - the scene where Sarah bites Kyle, he has a bite scar on his hand the rest of the scene. Never seen that. Nor the terminator shead a tear when taking out his eye. I wish all the 80s movies looked this good.

This movie remaster in 4K Blu-ray was an excellent one. I gave it 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I have owned this movie in a number of formats from VHS, to Laser Disc, DVD to blu ray but this is better looking and sounding than I remember seeing it on the big screen in 1984. The image is stunning compared to versions up to DVD and even the blu ray is surpassed by many degrees. The sound is punchy and although there are limited extras this is a definitive version at last. Vastly superior to the waxy, DVNRd T2. A must buy

The Terminator has always been one of my favorite movies, and I finally pulled the trigger on the 4K version. Let me just say—this remaster is totally worth the purchase. I’m not usually a fan of rebuying movies I already own, but for the titles I love and plan to rewatch over and over, the upgrade makes sense. The Terminator definitely falls into that category. The 4K transfer breathes new life into the film. The image is crisp, the shadows and lighting really pop, and there’s a noticeable improvement in detail and color compared to the old Blu-ray or DVD versions. That said, the stop-motion scenes of the endoskeleton in the factory are still a little jerky—as they always were—but that’s part of the charm. It’s a practical effect from the ‘80s, and I respect that it wasn’t overhauled or digitally “smoothed out.” The film still holds up in every other way: the pacing, atmosphere, and tension are as gripping as ever. If you’re on the fence about upgrading, I’d say go for it—especially if The Terminator is a favorite of yours. This version does the film justice, and it’s the kind of quality upgrade that makes it worth sitting down for yet another rewatch.

This is now the definitive version of Terminator it is just the almost near perfect release of Dolbyvision & Atmos, yes it includes the original soundtrack for the first time but to me it sounded anemic compared to the Atmos but I understand some of the sound effects have been changed with the 5.1 track and I didn't care for the sound of the weapons such as Schwarzenegger's long-slide 45 cal. it just sounded weird but other than that the Atmos track was more immersive and powerful. Now for what is just a thing of beauty the video is awesome for the first time the blacks are deep and inky which causes the Dolbyvision to explode with visual colors unlike any version you have seen before, this cannot be understated the visuals in this release are amazing, clarity is still there as is a fine grain layer, not as chunky as in past releases and you will be shocked when Arnold walks up to 3 men to steal their clothing they might have to elevate this to an X-rating I don't think they ever intended to show that much of Arnold but with this new AI technology used to correct film flaws it's really brought out the detail in this film. The fatal flaw in this release is the extra's or the lack of extra's what you get was on the DVD and nothing new has been offered but don't let that sway your decision this 4k is superior to what was projected on the big screen so grab this while there are still slipcovers you won't regret it!

The 1984 sci-fi/action classic "The Terminator" is one of the greatest and most influential films of all time. It's one of my top ten favorite films ever made and seems to only get better with age. So with that being said, the main purpose of my review is to talk about the new remastered blu-ray that was released on February 19th, 2013 and how it compares to the original blu-ray release from 2006. To be quick and to the point, this new blu-ray release blows the old disc out of the water. (This appears to be the same transfer that has been out for a little wile in Europe). Detail is greatly improved in addition to far superior contrast and black levels which is very important due to how much of the movie takes place at night. It was apparent with the 2006 blu-ray that the old ancient HD master used for the special edition DVD was dumped onto blu-ray which is what a ton of companies were doing at the beginning of the blu-ray era. There is a nice layer of film grain present that gives everything a nice feel with no evidence of digital noise reduction being applied. The old blu-ray barely looked better than an upconverted DVD and this new blu-ray FINALLY presents the film in the best quality that it's ever been for the home market. It's also on a dual layer disc this time with a very high bit rate in the mid to upper 30's throughout. There has been some grumbling on the internet of some fans questioning the transfer's more teal/bluish color scheme in comparison to past releases. Anybody who is fan of writer & director James Cameron knows that he really likes bathing his nighttime scenes in blue hues. I did a direct comparison with the old blu-ray and the new one appears much more natural in terms of skin tones and the overall color textures. The picture quality on then new blu-ray is just so beautiful and a massive improvement over the old disc, I really don't see how anybody who loves the film as much as I do would have any complaints. On the audio side, we get a lossless DTS surround mix that originally appeared on the old special edition DVD. This particular mix has been a point of contention with a lot of fans over the years. This is due to that the original audio for the film was in mono and for the surround remix, certain sound effects like gunshots were replaced. The old DVD featured both the original mono track and the 5.1 remix. The first blu-ray onl contained the surround remix. For this new blu-ray, I've always felt that the original audio track should be presented if a remix was done. With that being said, I don't mind the new gun shot sounds in the surround remix but would like to have had the mono track in lossless audio too. Extras are the same as the first blu-ray in which we get a 13 minute featurette on the visual effects & music, a fun 20 minute sit down conversation with James Cameron & Arnold Schwarzenegger reminiscing about the film and some deleted scenes. Still missing in action from the special edition DVD are the optional James Cameron commentary on the deleted scenes explaining why they were cut out as welll as the remained of the hour long making of doumentary that the visual effects piece was pulled from. Since this new blu-ray is on a dual layered 50 gigabyte disc, it's not an issue of space since those extras are all in standard definition to begin with. No trailers for the film are present either which is disappointing from a completist point of view. So, sadly we still have yet to get the true definitive blu-ray of The Terminator with those mentioned extras not being included along with the original mono audio track. But all fans owe it to themselves to get this new blu-ray due to the massive upgrade in picture quality. Do like I did hold onto your old special edition flipper DVD to have all of the extras and make your own 2 disc set. The movie looks gorgeous now compared to the old ancient blu-ray and this appears to be the best that we're going to get!

The 4k video quality was superb and the Dolby Atmos was flawless , a must have to your Library

One of the classic movies from the 1980s finally makes it onto 4K and the transfer is really well done. Unlike Cameron's other transfers, mostly that of True Lies and T2, the AI scaling is not bad here. The film still retains some of its grain look and it looks and sounds awesome. Only complain is the lack of features. Some nice behind the scenes but nothing new.

This classic movie is a good science fiction movie. Picture and sound quality is a lot better than the DVD and the first Blu-ray edition. I highly recommend this movie.

Terminator es de mis películas favoritas y esta version en 4k UHD por el momento es la edición definitiva que todo coleccionista debe tener. La remasterisación en 4k es muy buena, conserva el granulado fílmico y nivel de detalle de la imagen es magnífico, si tienes un teatro en casa el sonido envolvente te dejará sorprendido con su increíble calidad y sus potentes sonidos bajos, sin duda valió la pena la compra.
