Does what it should ...
Bought this last January as we were having a number of trees cut back/lopped. It was extensively used throughout lockdown and then put away for a few months. We have just had to have a eucalyptus tree cut down so have spent a few days shredding loads of branches and leaves, this shredder has been great for our use. It can become clogged but is very easy to clear. I would definitely recommend.

Stopped working after one use.
This is making our lives much easier, especially at this time of year when we are pruning fruit trees. This machine chops up thick branches effectively and quickly giving us useful material to either compost or use elsewhere in the garden. UPDATE: This shredder is no longer working. We used it ONCE. 6 months later and it is completely dead. The seller is refusing to comply with my legal right to a repair, refund or replacement under EU legislation which offers a 2yr minimum guarantee on all purchases so we are taking the matter further through European Consumer Protection services.

Top shredder
I just picked up one of these from Homebase, quite a bit cheaper so felt good about it already. Took it round to mums to attack the pile of shrub cut off and small branches from trees I had created. Quick to assmble, just put the wheels and blocks on and screw the top to base. First job is to adjust the presure plate. With the blade running just screw in until it pinches and then back off a turn. It will go through a lot of stuff in quick time. Stuff a branch in and it will churn it up whilst you grabe the next. It likes anything up to sort of thum size, a big thum. Dry stuff is a bit harder but fresh cut is easy meat. It does not always cut each bite all the way through but its not really a problem. Its not over keen on too much green stuff and its not really intended for leaves. But it will take them and mash a bit. Just don't put too much in at one time or it might clog. Now be aware when it has a branch in its jaws it might thrash it around. Long branches can wack you on the head. Also when it grabs a branch it will be a strong pull trapped or pinched fingers are possible, gloves are a must. I should say also no lose clothing this is a strong beast and it will pull very hard, too hard to break free. So take care this is proper machinery. I'm very pleased it is a well designed machine. The sound it makes is a lot lot less than my old impact shredder. It's not silent but nowear near annoying.

Shredder for larger prunings
I bought one of these shredders to shred the clippings of my mixed hedge, hawthorn, rose, beech and other native plants. It was very easy to assemble and get running and it does the job but I have some caveats. It is quite slow to use because each branch has to be individually fed into it. You cannot just drop a handful into the small top feeder. It works best with the larger branches but fine stems and leaves jam it. I've had to turn the shredder off and unblog it with a bent metal poker. There is no easy hand access into the small channel above the blades which is probably a sensible safety precaution. I think it would probably be best with autumn cuttings when the leaves are gone as the leaves, particularly wet leaves make it really struggle. I am pretty sure I would have to allow my privet hedge to grow wild for while and then this would shred the large prunings but if you are looking for something to chop up normal hedge clippings I would give this a miss. Having said all of that it does make larger cuttings compostable.
