[239 PCS] Organic Chemistry Model Kit | Molecular Model Kit for Students

I used this for my organic chemistry class, and it got the job done. It comes with lots of pieces, so you can basically make any structure you need. I'd say the quality was good as well.

The perfect kit for a student who learns by constructing the very molecules they are learning about. What a wonderful and fun tool.

Good kit for organic class. Easy to build and take apart models. Can be used to built reasonably sized molecules. Holding up well so far. Can make space filling models or indicate double and triple bonds with flexible sticks.

So far I'm loving it. I bought it to help me study for an organic chemistry class I'm taking this summer. We're still going over basic structures so I haven't needed to use the kit yet but I did play around with it and I think it'll be perfect for what I need. I like that the bonds are easy to make and break. I know some kits have to be forced together and it takes forever to get them apart which is somewhat annoying. These models are sturdy and yet easy to change as needed so they're perfect. My only complaint is that the box needs to be about 1/4" deeper. It's impossible to put all of the pieces in the box and close the lid which is a little frustrating. I'm going to take this kit to class and exams and I don't want to be fishing bond links out of the bottom of my backpack. Other than that it's a great product and I would highly recommend it to my fellow students.

I bought this for my high school aged daughter who is in AP Chemistry. She uses chemistry model kits in class to help with learning, and finds it so helpful she wanted one of her own. She knows she will get a lot of use with it for school work now and in the future as she wants to study chemistry in college. She also just likes to play with it haha. The pieces are constructed very nicely and fit together perfectly. There's even a little tool piece to help take the pieces apart which is handy. Everything is of excellent quality. HOWEVER, I will agree with all of the other reviewers who commented on the box not being big enough to hold all the pieces and close properly. This is 100% true. It's so odd how they are even trying to get all of these pieces into this box. I don't even think the box will stay closed well with it being empty! Such a strange design. We are buying another latching container to put this in. I'm still happy with the kit, but just know you'll need another storage solution.

I cannot recommend this set enough. It is so much better than the set that was recommended to me in my syllabus, which was more expensive and somehow was more cheaply made. The set that was recommended to me was cold, boring, and made the subject even scarier. It was so hard to use that many students never used it. The Old Nobby kit? It’s incredibly intuitive to use, fun, and takes the fear away from organic chemistry immediately. As you go through your textbook you’ll say “Oh I can’t wait to build this!” Buy this set. The first time you build cyclohexane or benzene, the first time you perform a chair flip, the first time you build acetylene, the first time you build ethylene and see how everything comes into the same plane, organic chemistry suddenly CLICKS. For a class as challenging as orgo, you can’t put a price on something like this.

I am taking Orgo 1 now and this kit is perfect. My professor has us use it to model structures in class and even on exams. My friends with slightly cheaper kits have had some trouble, but this is kind of the right balance between sturdy and not-too-expensive. Highly recommend. It also comes with a stencil for organic chemistry shapes which I didn't realize and is really nice. All of the bits also have resealable plastic bags which is helping me keep it organized. The lid of the box doesn't stay on without rubber bands though which makes it a bit of a hassle to carry around.

I am using this for O-chem and some biology courses. Kit was received brand new with no blemishes or issues. Some kits do not hold together very well or are super hard to build (i.e. double bonds). This pieces in this kit hold together very well and are pliable so they hold their shape even after a lot of bending. The only thing I wish for from this kit is a better container. Unfortunately the container doesn't clamp or snap shut very well so I have to use a rubber band to keep all the pieces in the container. If you buy the kit I would suggest getting a large rubber band to wrap around it if you plan to take this anywhere. I would also suggest to the manufacturer to build out their guide with a full list of compounds/formulas. I am sure most of us google it but it would be a nice not required. If you were hoping for a long list I would suggest looking at a chem/bio book or googling it. As my expectation for the kit was mainly its contents I am giving this 5 stars as that was most important to me. Hope the review helps.

Good quality and correct bonds, a good started kit. My son loves it.

I am a chemistry teacher and found that this is a great product students at a very reasonable price. It has just enough units to make small molecules with varying bond types and it can accommodate VSEPR shapes which is most helpful. The kit came nicely packaged and included a nice molecule stencil (shown in picture). The quality of the links and spheres feels durable. Typically my students would use the kits we have in the classroom, but with COVID and at-home learning, I have encouraged them to find a kit to keep at home for themselves. Of course, if you are looking to create large molecules (great than 15 carbons) or multiple carbon molecules at once, then you will need a larger kit.

Received the product in good condition. The quality is as expected. But the delivery is much delayed and reached 2 weeks after promised delivery date.

Let me just say this is a fun molecular model. This is not what I want for organic chemistry, for instance, it doesn't fully represent VESPR and I find it difficult to work with triple bonds. hence, I purchased another molecular model by the brand Darling, which my uOttawa Orgo professor reeccomended. That one set me back a cool $40 with shipping, but it feels more depressing than the old nobby. The darling molecular model is much less attractive and fun, but it is better suited for hard science. The Old Nobby is like a toy. If I was in grade 7-11, I would be very happy with the old nobby. In the end, my sister (12 years old) came in and took it. It sparked her curiosity, I think. I feel like she learned a bunch and I will be using this old nobby model kit when I tutor. It was shipped without a bubble mailer, which I don't know if that was by Old Nobby's choice or by Amazon, but I was glad. Less bubble wrap for me to throw into a landfill. This review was left because the family behind Old Nobby is delightful. I signed up for beta testing and received a prompt reply from them. Apparently Paul reads all the reviews. Hi paul!
