One might be able to place it in a pot of water and bring it to a boil, but not at all sure that would work. What I do know, however, is that my previous neti pot was plastic and was told to place it in the microwave (empty) for forty-five seconds to sterilize it. I tried the same with the porcelain neti pot, also without water in it, and it somewhat exploded before it even got to the forty five seconds! Needless to say, I'm now on my second porcelain neti pot and have an extra in the cupboard for when I fumble my fingers, and drop the neti pot, and break it much like the microwave did. You might try boiling water in a separate container and pouring the boiling water into the neti pot.??? **Q: is the neti pot lead free?** A: Yes. It is composed of porcelain. **Q: How much water can it hold without spilling?** A: I just eyeball it. Often I warm the purified sea salt water too warm and add a bit of cool water to balance it. If I had water spilling out the top, I would assume I over filled it.
