***UPDATED to 3 STARS as Dec.22. 2025*** As much as I love this heat pack, I ended up using much more than predicted, and I used it for myself. It begun with the granddaughter not liking the smell almost immediately. However, I appreciated the utility of the heat pack so I was using for a sore lower back….since the smell was not a big issue for me at first. The odor is very distinct kinda like a faint fart…..but it gets worse. I believe the content of flax seeds gets zapped so many times in the microwave that eventually burns and the smell becomes stronger, and stronger and not everyone can part with that. At this point not even me. All family members have asked me to stop using the heat pad because it leaves a very unpleasant scent that last longer and impregnates the area where the heat pad is located. As the heat pad content becomes more cooked inside. I had to downgrade it from 5 stars to 3 stars….it could go lower. The reasons now are that the heat pad will last a very short time so it becomes unusable. In terms of value for the money the score is very low. I was hoping the company offered heat pads replacement that I could buy, meaning the content without the shell. But there is no such option. It is a throw away item that yes it is made of flax seeds which are sustainable, but one is left over with material that in effect cannot be used. I am going to try to empty the content and fill it back with flax seed or rice. My understanding is that no matter what is the content, it will slowly burn eventually and cause an odor. *****OLD REVIEW WITH 5 STARS***** My granddaughter loves this heat pack, and finds it very soothing. She has sensory issues sometimes and this microwavable hot pack seems to be an alternative to other things. The dog outside shell closes and open with velcro and the beads bag is easy to place in the microwave and can be put back in the shell. It holds heat for about 30 to 45 min. Takes about 3 min on 1000 watts microwave, actually 2 min + 1 min repositioning. It is a good size made of quality plushy soft fabric. Definitely durable across many uses and that will last in the years to come. I cannot speak about being pain relief because I did not buy it for that purpose.

I got it for my daughter who gets cramps, we like the way the dog loos but it does not get so Hot, and if I would heat it up too much it will have a burn smell like an old one we had!
