Also, I wanted a pack that would count as a personal item on a plane. This fit the bill well. It is durable, has enough compartments for separation of items but enough storage to carry personal items, a water bottle, a light jacket. It isn't overly heavy and was not uncomfortable to carry on full-day hikes. It fit under the seat on several plane trips.
