## Overview

The Doggie Dooley 3000 is an innovative, environmentally safe in-ground pet-waste disposal system designed for pet owners who want to maintain a clean yard while being eco-conscious. Suitable for up to 2 large dogs or 4 small dogs, this galvanized steel tank features a convenient foot-operated lid and includes a digester to break down waste. Measuring 13.75 inches on each side, it’s the perfect addition to any modern backyard.

## Description

Keep lawns and outdoor play areas cleaner with this in-ground pet waste digester designed for convenient backyard disposal. The underground unit uses a leach-bed style process where pet waste breaks down inside the buried chamber and gradually disperses into surrounding soil. Installation requires digging a hole approximately 48 inches deep and about 8 inches wide using a post hole digger or garden shovel. The unit measures about 15 inches across the top and installs so the lid sits level with the ground surface. Simply add pet waste along with water and digester tablets as needed to support the natural breakdown process. For best results, add approximately 1 gallon (4 liters) of water each time waste is added to help move material through the system, and begin initial setup by adding about 5 gallons (19 liters) of water with the starter tablets. The system includes a digester supply that can last up to 6 months depending on usage. The durable high-impact plastic tank is built for long-term outdoor placement and features a foot-operated lid opener for convenient hands-free access during cleanup. Designed for homes with one large dog or up to two small dogs, this system provides a centralized location for routine backyard waste disposal. Some assembly is required before installation, and it performs best in most soil conditions except hard clay or heavy sand.

Review: No more garbage poo!! - This is one of the most exciting products I've heard about. I have been wanting to get rid of my garbage service for a while now, compost most everything and have very little waste. Well, dog poo was a large portion of our garbage, as we have two labs. Throwing it at the back of the yard to decompose naturally was not an option. My wife told me about a septic system specifically made for dog poo that she had heard about. I was like "Seriously?! Awesome!!" So, a quick search on desertcart brought me to this item. I had no hesitation in ordering this item based on reviews and the whole concept. I'ts been up and running for about two weeks. I use two tablets per week and seems to be working just fine. Not sure if the powder is any better. At this point I would say buy it! Notes: They say to dig a four foot hole, and that's it. They don't say to fill it with anything. I can't imagine the plastic cover being able to support over forty pounds. I decided to fill the hole with drain rock until this item sits on top of the rock and is flush with the ground. How it works: You buy it, bury it, fill it with water, throw a couple tablets in to get the bacteria started. Then throw a day or two worth of poo in, but no more, you don't want to overload the system. Each day you pour a gallon of WARM water in to "flush" the system. This stirs everything up, raises the water level, and empties waste into the four foot hole you dug. Then scoop daily poo into this unit. Is this smelly? Yes and no. When it's closed for the day you don't smell it, but when you open it to make a deposit, yes it's very smelly! Overall this won't stink up the whole neighborhood. Might not be best put in a place of direct sunlight for most the day as the sun will break down the plastic very fast. I believe the fact that the bacteria doesn't work well below 40 degrees, I don't work well under 40!! Highly recommended!!
Review: Gets the job done! - I installed this myself which is saying something considering I’m a 50 year old woman. The digging was made much easier after I used a 36” auger drill attachment to loosen the soil. I dug the hole with a post hole digger, put some drainage rocks in the bottom of the hole and set the dooly flush with the ground. Only problem I had was due to the soil where I live, it’s mostly sand and the hole kept caving in so I sunk a 8 inch drain pipe with holes drilled through sides down into the hole to shore up the walls. Next I added the water and the tablets that came with the product and it’s been working ever since! I haven’t had any problems with odor and each time I add a fresh pile of dog poop the previous one isn’t there. The product seems sturdy enough to do its job. I’m debating on moving it to a new location closer to my garden hose because it needs water to work properly and I believe it will hold up well if I do move it Pretty cool product. I keep my garbage can in my garage and it doesn’t smell like dog crap since I started using this. I have one large golden retriever but she has friends over often who like to poop here so I use the product a lot. Hope this helps anyone who is on the fence deciding if they want to buy this, I’m glad I did!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: OK, This seems like such a waste. Doesn't dog poo decomponse on it's own in a few days? I can't see what value this brings to the natural process.**
A: I've had my unit for about 3 months and I love it! 2 boxers and a fair amount of waste. Each week I flush the tank by adding about 5 gallons of fresh water, add the new waste and enzymes. I use Rid X and sprinkle about a 1/4 cup of it on the fresh poop in the tank. By the end of the week it has mostly turned to mush and gets flushed down the inner tube to the 4 foot dirt hole under the tank. This is very much like flushing a toilet. The enzymes in the poop in the dirt hole continue to breakdown and eventually become part of the soil. Technically if everything is working correctly you should not ever need to move this unit. It is important to keep the tank full of water and the poop submerged as that minimizes the smell and bugs. Now if I could just teach my dogs to poop in that tank, I'd be all set! :o)

**Q: Can this be used with cat feces?**
A: Do not use this for cat feces. They contain the toxoplasmosis parasite, which can be contracted by humans. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/toxoplasmosis/symptoms-causes/syc-20356249

**Q: I've heard this doesn't do well in cold weather climates (below 40). Is this true?**
A: The water in this metal bucket does freeze over rendering it useless in the cold winter months in Pennsylvania. Our frost line is 3’ below the ground surface.

**Q: How does it work, where does the poop go?**
A: Joseph is not giving accurate information. You definitely dig a 4 foot hole. In the pictures it even shows a diagram with the hole being 48 inches deep.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Not For Clay Soil
*by J***R on November 25, 2014*

I wanted one of these, but decided to use an old garbage can instead. I dug a deep hole, cut the bottom off the can, only to discover that I did not have a lid for the can. I REALLY like the lid on this product, it looks durable and easy to use. I did not relish the though of lifting the lid every time I scooped. So I bought one of these to use in my hole about a month ago. Well, it turns out this is a mini septic tank. The bottom can is sealed on the bottom and has an overflow tube. It uses the type of composting that is in water. You add enzymes to break down the waste, and then what's left flows over the top of the overflow tube and into the ground. I also discovered, after reading the instructions, that this will not work in clay soil. My soil is so clay, I added a little water to make it easier to dig, and the water stayed for days! Seeing that this type of composting would not work for me, I modified mine. I cut the bottom off, used the can as a lid, (I know an expensive lid!), and used it that way. My hole, big enough for a garbage can was too big, so I cut pieces of my garbage can (plastic) and put it around the Dooley and filled in my hole around it. It works great so far. The top flange and the lid itself are plastic, so I worry about sun damage and cracking, but so far so good. Since my soil is clay, water drains very slowly out of my hole. I dropped some of the enzyme pellets in anyway to see what happens. There is still a lot of water in my hole, but so far no smell. It has been cold, so it might be worse in the summer. LOTS OF FLYS!!!! But I figure better inside the Dooley, than outside in the yard. At least the spiders will be able to feed of the Dooley that having to build webs all over the yard like they do now. So check your soil to make sure it can absorb the water from this mini septic tank before buying.
