It is serving me for the past 14 years!!!
Okay, I bought my hula hoop 4B 14 years ago. And it is still serving me and my kids. It was a hula hoop and a swing for my kids. It is very sturdy and a great item. I had another one at that time, which was very heavy. This one is precisely the right weight. I decided to write a review after 14 years because it is the single item in my house that survived my small kids. My kids have a lot of fun using it. The hoop is very stable and strong. No pain if you use it for less than 7 minutes. After 7 minutes, I usually get tired. The hoop stability is very nice. It was easy to put it together and easy to use. Highly recommend this hoop!

Great piece of exercise equipment for a fun and challenging workout
I've loved hula hooping since I was a kid--I used to win blue ribbons on Field Day for keeping it up the longest. I'd recently been using a toy hoop to exercise for extended periods of time (I'd alternate clockwise and counterclockwise every couple minutes, for 20+ minutes) but I wanted more of a challenge, so I bought this weighted (3 lb.) hoop. It was, as many others have mentioned, a bit challenging to assemble it initially--it was hard to make sure that the pieces click in place properly. I just rolled back the foam on each of the pieces to make sure that each insertable end clicked into place (then rolled the foam back into place). When you try to pull the pieces apart, they should not budge at all; that's how you know it's ready to go. This hoop is several inches larger in diameter than my toy one, so it looked a bit intimidating, but if you're familiar with hooping in the first place then you should be able to keep it up. At first it felt funny--I tried for a few seconds and it tickled so I had to stop since it was making me laugh. Once I composed myself, though, I tried again and was able to keep it up for a couple minutes. After that, it does start to feel a little uncomfortable from the pressure against your sides and ribs--on the box, it recommends no more than 3 minutes a day for beginners. Since I had been doing hooping and other core exercises, though, I tried it for a while longer (two separate 4-minutes sessions) later and found it fun and challenging. It's cool that weighted hoops actually move more slowly around than the lightweight, toys ones, so it's easier to try things like turning around in a circle as the hoop moves around you. I wouldn't recommend buying this if you've never hula hooped in your life; it takes a certain amount of core strength and coordination to be able to keep it up, especially a weighted one. But if you are already reasonably fit and know how to swivel your hips to keep up the hoop's rotation, then this is a good product to buy to give you a more challenging core workout. It's great to do while you watch TV (you need at least 5 or 6 square feet of space to have room to use this); you can increase the duration of use weekly but it says never to exceed 20 minutes at a time. The initial discomfort of using this wore off after a few days. The day after I first tried it, my sides were so sore that it hurt to try it again that day. But I gradually built up the duration of my workouts with this, and now I often do 30 minutes a day, in ten-minute intervals, still alternating direction every couple minutes (I intersperse the 10-minute sessions with weightlifting and resistance band moves). I found it has definitely built up my core strength, and I still enjoy using this a few times a week. Update: 11 years later and I still have this thing and use it all the time. The foam has gotten slightly dented here and there (probably from my bumping into things in my small apartment) but nothing that affects the functionality at all. It fits in my closet when I want it out of the way. Clearly it’s been a great investment, since I love to hula hoop! Update again: It’s 2023, and I still use this all the time. Only the few minor dents in the foam, but the frame is very sturdy snd does not fall apart. I love hooping while watching my favorite shows. Some variations I try are light jogging while hooping, standing on one leg for as long as I can while hooping, letting the hoop drop from my waist to my hips (which means you have to keep up a faster pace to maintain the rotation), walking around a bit as my space allows, side lunges, and arm circles while (you guessed it) hooping.

Just as I expected
I have used this product for a little over a week, and I am very pleased so far. Initially, I was unsure of whether I wanted to take a chance on this purchase, because the reviews cited some issues with the durability of the hoop, and some people had problems with it falling apart. I found it very simple to put together, and it seems to be very well-made. Mine snapped snugly together with no problems on the first attempt, and has stayed put even with daily use. I am very pleased with the quality of the product. The material of the hoop itself is thick and strong, and the padding is ample. Just as the manufacturer (and many reviews) state, the hoop did cause some tenderness of the waistline upon the first use or two (which I expected would happen when I first introduced my midsection to a 4 lb. hula hoop), but I have followed the manufacturer's instructions for the time-table of use (start out small, and increase gradually, of course), and all tenderness has subsided. I have found it easy and fun to use, even from the first day. While I've only had the hoop a short time, I cannot report any long-term effects, but can truly say that in the short-term, it seems like a good investment. It does provide a surprisingly good cardio work-out; it's a fun, refreshing way to change up your exercise routine, or just add some extra cardio. Time will tell whether it causes a drop in inches from my waistline, but it definitely gives my core a work-out!

Ouch!
After some considerable research, I selected this because it was recommended for my height (5'10) and weight (230 lbs), plus I was apprehensive about the wavy or textured ones. I don't really care about it being weighted, figuring the movement of keeping the hoop up is enough to get some nice cardio in and further define my waist. The last time I've played with a hula hoop was about 30 years ago (now 40), and I was crazy about it then. It just seems like a fun addendum to my home workout, in which I could just watch TV or listen to music and hoop away. It is very easy to assemble (yes, like others have said, you do need to make sure the pieces lock) and the pieces fit together smoothly. I like the feel of the foam covering, thinking that it'll help make it easier going around. Though I was super eager to get going, I first read everything and checked out the included DVD. Within my first day, I got it going pretty good. By the second day, I was really enjoying it. I think it's really important to stick with the recommended time because by day 4, I was getting really into it and apparently overdid it... Big bruises on my hips, tenderness on my tummy. I couldn't wait to recover (used Arnicare Gel to help) and in less than 2 days, I was hooping again. The next day, sore again, not good timing for hooping. As much as I LOVE hooping, sadly this hoop doesn't seem to be for me. I've ordered a Canyon Weighted Exercise Hula Hoop (42", 2 lbs.) to replace this one, excited again about hooping, but hopefully without the pain/bruising :-) UPDATE: It's been about two weeks, and as others have conveyed, the experience has improved. I'm glad to consider keeping this hoop, now that I'm not beating myself up with it, lol

The best hula hoop I have ever tried
A doctor recommended that I use a weighted hula hoop for toning my core and working in some cardio. The brand she suggested cost $50 for each hula hoop plus $17 to ship it, which seemed a bit too expensive for my taste. I tried another hula hoop on Amazon which was metal and hurt to use! Having seen this particular Sports Hoop in many on line videos about weighted hula hoops, I gave it a try. Impressively, it arrived the day after I ordered it using Amazon Prime. I am not normally good at putting things together, but I had this one all assembled in less than five minutes. It was even fun to choose the order for which to place the colors. When I gave it a try, I was immediately in love with it! The hula hoop has a nice amount of padding but not too much that it makes it hard to use. I have heard that there is a learning curve to using it, which I have experienced, as it took me about a week of using it daily to finally be able to last more than ten seconds on it. However my husband and mom, who both claim that they could never hula hoop as a kid, tried it and immediately were able to use it for minutes at a time. Just a word of caution: If you are on blood thinners, it may cause big bruises. I am taking taking one, and my hips are very black and blue. However, this will not stop me from using this product, because I am addicted to using my hula hoop!

Happy to be hooping, not to be bruising
I got my hoop in the mail yesterday and was so excited! I still am! I am brand new to hooping. I have read a lot of reviews saying the hoop falls apart/detaches. Let me just say you have to put it together very precisely or it will. The first few times I put it together it flew apart and I got really discouraged. You have to make sure each piece clicks in to its grove. If you do this it will not come apart. Once you realize how to connect it properly it'll be very easy to take apart/put back together the next time. I tried it out yesterday and am hurting today. It is weighted so it does bruise you up a bit and I never had luck in the past keeping the hoop up. Last night after multiple tries I finally did. Today though My hip bones and abdomen are hurting and sore so i wasn't able to do it today. I am 175 and went with a large hoop (4lbs).. I think I could have gotten away with a medium hoop. I'm sure I will get the hang of this eventually, I do not plan on giving up. It also came with a workout dvd and that is a huge plus! This hoop seems like it will really do what it says if you use it. Slim waist/help you lose weight.. It is not for dancing though. I think you would def need a lighter hoop for dancing. I'll update this after I have been doing it awhile. *Week later* it took over 4 days for the bruising to go away. I tried again once the bruising was almost gone. Got bruised again but even worse then the first time since I did it 2 days in a row this time. It isn't just light bruising, it looks I was punch in a bunch of different areas. I really wanted to like this hoop. I'm Giving it 3 stars because it is made really well, and they allow returns. I got the large hoop. I am going to find a lighter hoop(2lb hoop companies to this 4.1 lb hoop should make a difference)

Weighted Hula Hoop
My hula hoop arrived approximately four days before its due date. Woo Hoo! I've read plenty of the reviews and I decided to go with the one without the ridges, and I am so happy that I did this too. The weighted hula hoop looked exactly like the pictures and it was very easy to piece together. I pushed in the pieces and listened for the clicks. My hula hoop hasn't come apart and this is good. Unfortunately, I have no idea of how to take it apart. Anyhow, it took me about 30 minutes of my time to figure out how to keep this weighted hula hoop up in the air. You know what they say, right? Practice makes perfect! Well, now my hula hooping abilities in the last three days are becoming perfect. I am having so much fun with this hula hoop. I should've bought this a long long long time ago. Shame on me! I've managed to use my hula hoop in the opposite direction. This is the easiest and most fun cardio workout that I have had in awhile. Seriously! I can hula hoop fast and slow it down.(LOL) I feel certain that this weighted hula hoop will help me in trimming down my waistline. It's just too much fun to not pick it up and use on a regular basis. The only down side is that I did not listen to the folks in the reviews when they all said to pace yourselves with it the first day or two. I ended up getting very sore because I caught on very fast with the hula hoop and kept going, going, and going. Now after a day of relaxing, I am back at it again and I am no longer sore. So, definitely listen to your body and take it easy the first day or two. Use it maybe 10 to 15 minutes like everyone states. You'll get plenty more opportunities to swirl that hula hoop again. I hope to repost in two to three weeks time and give you an update on my waistline and fitness level. Thanks! ;-)

Parfait !!
