Still perfect after 5 years
Way back in 2011, I had to take my stepdaughter to the ER for a softball injury. She turned out to be fine, but while we were in the waiting room, we met a young girl who had her hand wrapped in a blood soaked towel. She had stuck her hand in a kitchen drawer to find something and managed to skewer her hand on a knife that was laying in the drawer. This was a wake up call for me as I was one of those people who kept his knives laying in a kitchen drawer. I am the cook in my home and I was careful about how I placed the knives in the drawer, but this incident made me realize I wasn't the only person who might open that drawer. So, in May of 2011, I purchased a pair of these knife blocks for about $40. I picked this particular model because a pair of these would fit perfectly in my drawer when placed side by side. This was one of those purchases that makes you think "Why didn't I buy this years ago". My knives are now organized, easy to find and to store, and much, much safer. These blocks still look and work like new.

Still a little edgy...
If you're like me, you've got one block of knives set on the counter that usually houses the chef knives and a couple parers and maybe a steak knife of 4, depending on who (un)loaded the dishwasher. Then, there's the infamous drawer with all things that don't fit in anything else, which consists of another 10+ blades in various hacking forms. I needed to bring a little more organization into play, for both myself and the edges of my knives. I went for this one...I could use another one to accommodate for the knives I still don't have room for, but it was still an improvement. At first, my wife told me it wouldn't fit in our drawer...that with the knives installed, it was too high. I believed her for a couple days, but then decided to give it a try myself. It fit just fine. Why did she say what she did? Well, there is the fact that if you install a wider knife in the 'top' slots it does stick up quite high. So you need to account for the 6 slots above and restrict them to smaller parers or steak knives. The bottom slots work great...for anything but a cleaver or a big brisket slicer, which is simply too long for anything other than the sheath you bought it with. All in all, I was able to load it up comfortably. 5 big knives and 6 smaller ones. You could cram more in there, but that defeats the purpose. For the price, just buy another.

Nice piece, but not for everyone (depending upon the types of knives you have)
See customer photos. The unit I was sent had some defects, so I returned it. Mine must have slipped through QC. I'd guess that's not typical as the overall design, look and feel is quite nice.... and I've not read a review by anyone else with QC complaints. In terms of function, it's great to have knives off the counter and organized and handy in a drawer. If your knives traditional styles, no doubt you'll be happy with the fit. My traditional type knives, from paring knife to 10" butcher knife, all fit well. My big Global butcher knife was good. But.... I've got a 6" cheese knife with dog-leg offset blade that was not totally happy in this knife block. The real troublemakers were my two Porsche type 301 knives with the wide, flat whale-tail flare at the end of the handles. They were difficult to get out of the block and they made the knives next to them difficult to grab.I'm going to have to keep looking for a good in-drawer solution so I can get the knife block off the counter.

Watch out for your drawer bottoms
This is a good, solid piece and fits nicely in my drawer next to the silverware caddy. The dimensions were accurate (good since I only had .75 of an inch to spare). It's functional and reasonably attractive and I like it, but I have 2 main concerns: the protection for the drawer, and the number of knives it can accommodate.First, the bottom of the block only has a couple of thin pieces of wood running crosswise to the slots, so if you don't want to be cutting along the bottom of the drawer, you have to be cautious to pick up the knives vertically and set them back down the same way. You can't draw them backward out of the block (if you can picture what I mean).Secondly, I have NO IDEA how they imagine 15 knives can fit in this piece. I've managed 10 large ones (5 in the back row and 5 in the front), and if you used the back row for steak knives instead you could get 6 in there, for a total of 11. If anyone has managed 15, please send me a picture so I can learn from your amazingness!

Every home should have one of these.
I had seen these in one of the home improvement giants but passed it up because I couldn't really see how it would work. That was a huge mistake. After we remodeled our kitchen I had to move my knife location to a drawer and revisited this item again. After reading all the reviews, I was sold. I really like them a lot (I needed to buy two to accommodate all of our knives). Another viewer who pointed out that the two he purchased were slightly different lengths was correct. The two I purchased are about 1/4 inch different in lengths. I was worried that the knives, sitting in this knife holder would sit too high in my drawer, which is only 3 3/8 inches deep, but to my satisfaction any of my knives can be placed in the holder and my drawer will close. It holds 11 knives nicely and can hold five additional (up to 16 as the ad says)if some of your knives are tiny. This is a fine product and is much safer and cleaner than on-counter blocks. The only down-fall, if one could call it that, is that I will need to remember in which slot I put each knife. Unlike a block which has predetermined knife placement, that job is now my responsibility. I am very happy with this product and would happily buy it as a gift for someone.

Amazing Block for Tight Spaces
My cabinets are skinny, so no knife blocks fit (that I was able to find). Drawer was a mess, and it was annoying to "dig through" the knife drawer to find what I wanted. Then I found this block, which is exactly the width of my drawer. Width is perfect for knives to sit side by side (I could imagine someone thinking they're a little too tightly spaced, but I needed them that way), and holds knives in a space-efficient way.The bottom of the block is not fully wide-open, so the knives rest on wooden surfaces instead of the drawer bottom.Very happy with this purchase!

Well made, great value!
Extremely well made and a very practical way of storing your knives neatly and safely in your kitchen drawers. It even accommodates cleavers in a standard depth drawer. This is a high quality product which uses joinery instead of unsightly screws. The clearcoat finish is very durable and easy to clean and doesn't require periodical oiling. It's also a great value as this is similar identical to ones sold at Williams Sonoma but much less in price.

Good but could use a slightly better design
Bought this as other drawer organisers were too large and didn't fit inside my kitchen drawers, neither did I want counterspace being taken up with a knife block. This fits all my knives; large (2), medium (1) and small (3) so I'm quite happy with it. Only thing bugging me is the product design as you have to be very careful how you insert your knives in case you damage the bamboo holder.Perhaps if the grooves/slots for the knives were v-shaped, then it could accommodate thicker knives whilst at the same time letting knives slide naturally into place e.g. knife|\ | /|| \ | / || \ | / ||___\|/___|

No More Cluttered Counter
Ordered 2 of these for all my knives. They look really nice and seem very well made except one of them had a ding on the back and is a little splintered hence the 4 stars. Because it was on the back edge and not noticeable I didn't bother to return it.I am happy to get all my knives off of the counter and into the drawer. Everyone I have shown are really impressed with them.

Great product - the best drawer solution for organizing your knives
My wife had all of our knives in a drawer just scattered about. It was downright dangerous if you had to root your way through some 20+ odd knives of various sizes and functions. My wife didn't want anything on the counter but the 'drawer of death' REALLY bugged me to no end. I started looking around for a solution and came across this item and though it was perfect in theory. I bought two units and put them side by side in the drawer and it worked perfectly from day 1. It is the only drawer based solution that I found and it was worth every penny, I would highly recommend getting this product if you are looking for a drawer based solution for knife clutter.
