Removes chemicals leaving just a clean water taste, which improves the overall taste of the coffee. The insides of my machine are nice and clean, and, more importantly, the coffee keeps coming out great. For Capresso Filters, this isn't a bad price either. If you are going to use an in-machine filter, this is a solid choice. Hence the four stars.However, I have realized that this is an unnecessary and avoidable expense for me, and possibly you as well. I don't drink my tap water due to the taste, so when I bought my refrigerator I decided that an in-door water dispenser with a filter was a must. My wife and I don't have children, so that filter lasts for ages. Why should I buy these filters when I have a perfectly good one in the fridge that doesn't stop meeting our needs before its' age mandates a change? So I now skip on this expense, and instead use the filtered water I already have access to. Several other reviewers mention that they use filtered water from other sources (bottles or those huge plastic jugs).
