LaCie Copilot BOSS 2 TB Drive — USB-C USB 3.0 Thunderbolt 3 with SD Card CF Card Slots, Drop Shock Dust Water Resistant, 1 Month Adobe CC (STGU2000400)

I got this to replace a WD MyPassport wireless pro which never worked properly from day one, and was hopelessly unreliable. I used this for storing video from my action cameras on a recent motorcycle tour. Just pop the sd cards into the slot, click the button, and all the video is copied to the drive. You can then reformat the card for the next couple of hours in the saddle. A major plus is being able to hook the CoPilot up to an iPad to view the videos or photos on it - no more carting a laptop on trips. With storage devices becoming so easy to lose now e.g. micro sd cards, it is really reassuring to know everything is backed up on this device. As an added bonus you can even use it a a power bank if your phone or tablet die (don't rely on it for a full charge though).

Took a while to finally make the decision to buy this. So far I am really pleased with its performance. Battery life is good. Adding the DS card for backup is simple and reliable to date. Connecting to iPad Pro, after a bit of firmware updating, reliable too. All in all its absolutely doing a great job. Hopefully this continues over time, but so far so good.

The concept of the product is good, travel without a Laptop being able to review and back up photos on an external hard drive connected to the iPad. however, the software is very cumbersome and I had great problems in establishing a stable connection to the IOS devices. To get it to work at all it required several resets and appears more hassle than its worse. The item I received had a manufacture date of 2018 (it was introduced in 2018 /9), which suggest that apart from an initial batch no more were produced. Seagate, who bought out LaCie, do not appear to provide phone and email responses mist the mark. This support is provided from Athens and whilst a Seagate consumer drive was swapped reasonably quickly, I was concerned with their responsiveness have waited for 45 minutes on the phone and not getting to speak to anybody. Also, I requested a callback through their chat functionality, but the promised callback did not happen. The support that helped more than the manual and the Seagate support was online and helped to clarify my thinking on this product. Perhaps with future generation iPads having moved away from the lightening connector to USB-C, together with Apple's shared architecture using the same chip in iPads and laptops, I expect a usable external drive will soon become reality, however, I do not this that this product is it. In terms of the categories below, I would rate the storage capacity as adequate to good. It can easily cover a photography focused trip using a cropped sensor or full frame camera. Not sure how well it would work for video and some forums 7 online discussion detail video issues. The item is quite heavy and I have not been able to check whether it can charge a phone or iPad from its battery. The large iPad Pro needs considerable charging capacity. The drive is heavier that other rugged drives and a MacBook Air and rugged drive will provide far more options to the professional user than this product managed from an iPad. Finally, the software, is very cumbersome and if combined with unreliable connections turns this product into quite a time waster.

I bought the Copilot in order to work with files on my 2018 iPad Pro whilst away shooting. Unfortunately the current build of the Copilot doesn't support USB-C with iOS devices. In order to be able to use it the drive needs to have a firmware update via a Lighting iOS device. I tried this on 3 different Lighting devices and not one of them was able to update the firmware. The App from iTunes store doesn't install properly and hangs (on all of the devices I tried it on). (I should point out I work in a technical job in broadcast television, so it's not a case of me being incompetent technically!) Unfortunately, I've not been able to use CoPilot for my shooting away and as such I have returned it to the vendor I bought it from for a refund. It's quite disappointing as I was hoping this would be a solution for me in the field as advertised but in my case it has failed to be a perform. I'm aware that it works for others but in my individual case it has failed to deliver. I have seen that others have similar issues as well. Hopefully these issues will be ironed out but I'm not prepared to pay the asking price to wait for that (thus the request for refund).

I am happy with the Lacie copilot, it took me no time transferring Videos from my GoPro to the copilot which Is very simple using the SD card. The issues arrive when you want to transfer the Videos from the copilot to the iPad and edit and store. Luckily after about 2 weeks I have worked this out. The email support and assistance from Lacie In my view is pretty awful. It took 2 weeks to answer my first query and I sent an email back regarding assistance and after 8 days, still no response. I did have a WD portable drive in the past and found the support was first class. I have now worked most issues out myself, no thanks to Lacie.

Useful storage facility.

This 2 TB external drive is specially designed for drone users who generate gigabytes of data from 4K video that can literally be backed up in the field. However, it is equally useful for those who generate high quantities of data through stills or video using earthbound cameras! Unlike my other LaCie drives, it has a built-in chargeable battery and comes complete with an external AC adapter and choice of four international plug fittings for UK, Europe, USA and Australasia. I downloaded the Copilot BOSS software onto my iPhone X, connected it to the LaCie drive using the supplied Lightning cable and updated the device firmware to v1.0.34.1. The groove in the side of the shock-protection cover allows this cable to be wrapped around the drive when not in use, even when the waterproof cap is replaced. Very neat, although it only comes with one cap unless the LaCie Rugged which has two in the box. I then inserted a 64GB Sandisk Extreme Pro SD card into the slot. The iPhone app asked me whether I wanted to copy the files onto the drive. According to the app, it was averaging around 100 MB/s. Usefully, the top of the drive then displayed the battery status, rate of file transfer and the number of files copied out of the total number of files. This created a new folder on the drive, which was labelled with the number generated by the date and time of copying. In total, it took 4’ 46” to copy 857 RAW files with 27 GB of data, which works out at an average of 94 MB/s, which is the exact rate quoted on the front of the Sandisk SD card. Very impressive. The drive comes with both USB-C to USB-C and USB-C to USB-A leads for use with older or more modern MacBooks and PCs. The display on the drive shows a picture of a computer to confirm the status of the connection. This drive is an ideal solution for backup when on location, particularly when using devices that have a single card drive. The combination of a display on the drive and information app on the iPhone gives plenty of reassurance that copying has taken place successfully. It is not the cheapest drive but it is really well put together and built to last.

This is a very pleasant looking device that I would be pleased to own. BUT..... Without a smart phone (which I have no wish to own) its functions are apparently very limited - be warned. After charging I tried to backup 2 different SD cards, both working fine in other devices, both a 32Gb (with a single image on it) and a 512Gb (with a few images on it). Neither worked, after a very long wait (well over 30 minutes) I tried to cancel the copy, this 'started' but never completed. A reset was required to get the device up and running again. So bottom line is it doesn't work - for me at least. SUPPORT I have sent it back for a refund. As yet no any news from the seller, so I will hold on an opinion. But trying to get support from Seagate is a joke. A completely duff service guy who wanted me to give him a high rating in return for a 1TB drive, I won't call it bribery but...... Evenually an American service guy phoned saying he wanted a satisfied customer. But when I said I had asked for a refund his response was that they do not give refunds. Lets just hope the seller does, otherwise its a claim under sale of goods.....

Für mich entspricht sehr gut meiner Nutzung, eine Zwischenspeicherung von SD-Karte zum Verarbeitung. Sobald wenn mit einem Kabel ein Laptop oder ein Tablet verbunden, fängt es auch ein, das angebaute Akku zu laden. Sodass es sich nicht entlädt. + Es hat alle mögliche Kabeln dabei, auch alle Einschlüsse für gängige Nutzung. (Kein Express Card Slot.) + - ohne Password und Verschlüsselung - Geschwindigkeit ist bisschen langsam wenn man von Computer die Daten abfragt, bei 10 MB Foto mit USB 3,0 Einschluss, am Computer braucht immer 1 Sekunden warten. Also es funktioniert nicht wie herkömmliche Festplatte.

Galaxy Note９にて一応 コピー 移動は出来た が専用のアプリが反応しない。私は別のファイルマネージャーを使用したが、他にHDD側の ディスプレイにも端末の認識がされて無いようで、情報が出ない。直接HDDにSDカードとかUSBを利用して無いので分からないが、１秒程で 表示が消えるから、何とも言えないが初期不良？とりあえず、データのやり取りは出来るので我慢する｡それと、曲と動画の同時コピーは出来ないの？機種との相性かも知れないが不満は残る。PCとiphoneだけまともに動作するのかも知れない。しかし、もう少し使ってみて、これからに期待する。 追記 普通にコピー､移動出来ます｡ フォーマットをすればTVの録画HDDとしても使えます！【動作確認済み】 静かで余程でなければ熱も持ちません。 しかし､相変わらず標準のファイルマネージャーは使えません。 他のファイルマネージャー では普通に認識して便利に使用しています。 やはり価格相応の価値があり､1万円そこそこのHDDとは一線を画します｡

Como dispositivo portátil es muy útil, para evitar cargar con el ordenador. Su manejo sin embargo es poco intuitivo. No obstante no es una mala opción para viajar con menos peso.

Je suis vidéaste de mariage et je fais également des vidéos de voyage. J'ai eu l'occasion de l'utiliser comme backup des rushs video. Et c'est top ! Points positifs : Le disque dur reconnait parfaitement les cartes SD et cartes CF (via adaptateur USB). Transfert est suffisamment rapide. Disque dur très bien protégé contre les petits chocs. L'application smartphone est rapide et permet de naviguer facilement pour ranger les fichiers. Il permet de s'affranchir de l'ordinateur lors de voyage long ou lors d'un shooting nécessitant de réaliser des backup fréquents de fichiers de grosse taille ( Films en 4K, reportage photo-vidéo mariage, etc ) Points négatifs: Le disque dur ne prévient pas si on recopie les mêmes fichiers d'une même carte dessus. Ce qui peut entrainer des doublons. Le disque du ne permet pas de " Formater la carte SD ou CF " une fois le transfert effectué. En somme, ce disque dur est parfaitement le produit que les photographes et vidéastes de mariage ou de voyage attendent depuis longtemps.

Amazon stated that the reason seller wouldn't accept return was because "Hazardous materials, flammable liquids or gases cannot be returned". These exceptions do not appear anywhere on the product page. Not to mention, they sent it to me, so why can't I send it back via the same shipping method? The product itself is fine. A couple of generations old, and it has quirks, but it gets the job done. My issue is with the seller. So if you're interested in the product, make sure you really want it because you can't return it.
