Who is this book for? Keep lookingโฆ.
Where to even begin. This book covers a lot of topics very superficially, excludes or barely covers a lot of pertinent networking topics, and it includes a bunch of outdated, thus useless, information. So I am left wondering who would benefit from this book??! From a practical standpoint, nobody. It doesnโt cover any one topic sufficiently, and it excludes most important contemporary Ethernet and tcp/ip networking topics, or barely mentions them. Even a windows network administrator wouldnโt gain anything from this book. I saw the copyright was 2025 so figured it would be up to date and relevant, but felt duped after going through it! I realize dummies books are supposed to be approachable, but come on, this book is mostly irrelevant. This should be in a goodwill bin for $1.50. Keep looking!!!

This is by far the best general networking book I own!
I just bought this book and felt compelled to write a review. This is by far the best "general" networking book I now own. I teach at Tertiary and University level and I am going to have this with me as a reference as I teach because it will achor me and bring me back to the straight path while I explain networking to students. I wish I had this book before I started my CCNA and Microsoft Certification Journey. Those are great certificates but they are very vendor specific and they presume that candidates have the fundamental understanding of networking. Well, here it is!

Haven't had the chance to go through the whole book, but it encompasses everything I expected. Though specific software like pfsense/opnsense are not covered as far as I can tell.
