Refurbished Hard Drives -Buyer beware. At my age I should have known better, or at the very least have used it before the ninety day warranty expired. Procrastinated thinking I might return it because of the Privacy Policy. The only issue as far as I know at this time the password protection out of the box doesn't function. My number one consideration for purchase was the password protection. Can't at this point trust it. The last thing any of us need is to load up an external hard drive with lots of important stuff and it go bonkers. I've been fortunate. In the twenty years I've used hard drives it has only occurred once. Not good. No more refurbish for me.

Hard drive arrived in good condition, but the Password Encrypted Hardware "did not work at all". The Seagate Toolbox software refused to recognize the Hard Drive Serial Number and it would not activate the software. This essentially made the drive completely useless for Password Protection and it had to be returned. Which is the exact reason I purchased it. It seems the security was not done right during the refurbish stage.

My guy is an attorney and fills up his laptop memory with files on top of files. I have this same Seagate and thought it would be helpful for him. It has been. he has had his memory freed up and is able to use his laptops now while storing his necessary files using portable memory. The price for this is a bargain. I recommend it.
