Review: An old war horse review… Big dog likes… - UPDATE: See original post below for initial review - After using these boots for close to a year now, they have only gotten BETTER! The break-in took about a month for me with 3-4 days a week usage. The side zipper step in feature has also widened a tad making them easier to step into. I was concerned about the Velcro strap wearing out with constant pulling off and on. They show little to no signs of wear! The sole hardly has wear on them also. Granted, I use them on streets and mostly easy walking/lights dirt trails. I don’t use them as a work boot on my feet 8-10hrs a day. The toe does scuff and have marks. BUT, 95-98% of the scuffs/marks wipe off easily with cleaner showing little if any damage. This has become the perfect daily boot for me. Waterproofing seems good as well up to a couple inches of water. Most of the time, when water/fluid hits these boots, it just runs off. Unless working in high water levels, this books keeps my feet dry 100% of the time. They still feel awesome, and have maintained their durability. It’s a fantastic lightweight/mid-weight boot! I plan on buying another pair in grey! Deserve more than 5 ⭐️ s. And I am picky as hell about my boots! Also, they fit my wide feet perfectly! One half size up is what I would recommend. The sole insert is decent, I added my preferred insert for $15 to make these boots off the charts comfy. Great value for the money! Ignore negative posts. I am not getting paid for this review. ORIGINAL POST: 8 years in the US Marine Corps. If you are like me, you want a rugged boot. A monster. Something to easily get in and out of that you can wear & forget about. I have 100 other things to think about and the boots I wear shouldn’t be one of them. (If they work). No, I don’t want to spend $200+ on a US Boot Brand that is made in China…. Why? Because it is a US Company but the boot is made in China? Viet Nam? But what about a $60 boot made god knows where..? I’m all for US but not at the expense of 4, 5, 6 times the cost…. Read on… I was looking for a light weight tactical boot that I could wear daily/almost daily. When working, walking, trecking, or hiking that can handle moderate to bad weather. This is what I found with these boots. (This is not a paid review. No self respecting Marine takes $ to sell crap). This is a 100% honest review. *Comfort These are light to midnight weight. Comfort on fit? B+. I added “Dr. Scholl’s Extra Comfort Support Insoles” for added comfort/support that brought these to an A-/A. I never buy any shoe/boot without adding “Dr. Scholl’s Extra Comfort Support Insoles.” You will thank me later. *Sizing Either my feet have spread more or these run a half to a size smaller. I did return and reordered a half size up for me. “From a size 11 to a size 11.5”. If I didn’t LOVE these boots, I wouldn’t have reordered. A size 11.5 was perfect… *Initial Look, Fit, Feel & Color The look? A solid “A”. Maybe bordering on “A+.” They look great and very…. “tactical/weather” ready. The feel of the material on the toe, sides, heal, and inside are an “A” to an “A-.” Overall grade? A VERY solid “A.” If I had to cry about something, I would want the toe/heal even more sturdy. But that is a Marine War Horse looking for something to cry about. (Take note). The Feel is great. They feel the “part.” Rugged light to mid light. The color I selected was “Sand.” I would say the color is accurate to “desert sand” climate/warfare. Nothing about that color would say “WTF! It doesn’t belong!” Color “is a solid “A.” NOTE: This is not an 8” boot that you drape/blouse your trousers over/inside. This is a shorter boot that I prefer. I prefer it and like the side zipper. More on that later. *Features of the Boot 1st, I LOVE this mid ankle boot with the side zipper. Few make boots of this size with a zipper and this makes getting in and out a breeze. No more lacing your boots up for 5 minutes when the wife is finally ready to go. Married Men??? You feel me? :) The Velcro flap closes over the zipper preventing it from dropping. This is an area of concern for me. That flap is made what seams just “ok” material. I could easily see this part wearing out if you plan on using the side zipper like I will. It’s stitched well BUT the material is slightly lacking IMO. The zipper itself takes some effort to lower it. This gives a person confidence knowing the zipper won’t just unzip. Metal eyelet holes in the boot, top 4 easy lace eyelets, and the heavy duty laces themselves make this a great boot also. ONE of the BEST features on this boot are the two oversized “pull straps”, 1 on the tongue & the other on the ankle portion making it easy to use with gloves on! Excellent and well thought out. The extended toe cap is perfect to protect the most vulnerable part of your boots. And also protects from wet conditions seeping into the foot area. A+. The heal/ankle support is fantastic and would prevent a roll. *The Lug & Insert The sole is beautiful. It reminds me of a softer rubber “Vibrum” material. Good for both hot and cold environments. I really like the tread pattern. Open and spread out to add grip in slippery environments. Also drops mud/material before eating the house with a few “stomps.” My ONLY gripe is the pattern is shallow. Meaning it could use another 1/8th to 1/4” depth to the tread…. But I love my boots and want to wear them for years. This tread should last on high wear surfaces 1-2 years easily. Moderate use, 2-3 years. If low wear environment? Maybe 3-4 years of moderate use. I’m not talking about the material or seams. Just the soles. The material and seams? I can’t say because I haven’t had them for 3, 4, 5 years…. They “look” like they will hold up. I will update if my feelings/impression changes. The Lug within the sole is mid weight I would guess. It has some bend by hand but not overly flexible. That seems like a nice blend for this type of boot. Easily can wear for 6-8 hours under minimal to moderate load. I like them. The insert is an inexpensive but nice, firm, and comfortable foam. I replaced them with “ 8 years in the US Marine Corps. If you are like me, wou want a rugged boot. A monster. Something to easily get in and out of that you can wear & forget about. All of the materials are what I would consider MODERN, lite, quick drying, long lasting, RISP stop, & top of the line. Military grade? If not, close to it. An “A+…?” That is tough. It’s is at least an “A” grade material. My question is “will the seams hold up” even though the material is “A” grade? Time will tell. Heat and usage will tell. With all Specialized boots, it’s ALL about the seams. Can the hold up? If I had to “guess” based on what I see? This is a 3-4 year boot under normal daily usage. Under heavy usage? 2-3 years… This is a 100% guess based on the material, workmanship, and finish. See above about the Velcro strap. *Usage This is what I would consider as a light to medium weight boot. I could easily walk all day in these and not feel the fatigue of a heavier boot. The boots are waterproof but could be prone to staining if used around oily environments. Dust, sand, trails, desert, horse stalls, this is great for those environments. *Expected Life For my light usage, 3-5 years. Heavy usage, 2-3 years. Both are guesses but educated ones based on material, fit, finish, & design. *Over All Review “A- to A”. There are a few improvements I would make: 1) Improve the sturdiness of the material on the Velcro strap. 2) stitch the sole of the toe to the boot preventing it from possible separation. 3) Increase the rubber sole tread depth. Do those things and keep the same price? This is an A+ boot. Make sure you add a “Dr. Scholl’s Extra Comfort Support Insoles” for that extra cushion…. Made a HUGE difference in the boot. *Material I am surprisingly impressed. All of the materials are what I would consider MODERN, lite, quick drying, long lasting, ripstop, & top of the line. Military grade? If not, close to it. An “A+…?” That is tough. It’s is at least an “A” grade material. My question is “will the seams hold up” even though the material is “A” grade? Time will tell. Heat and usage will tell. With all Specialized boots, it’s ALL about the seams. Can they hold up? *Over All Review “A- to A” for the money and a 2-3 year boot. There are a few improvements I would make to make this an A+ 3-5 year boot: 1) Improve the sturdiness of the material on the Velcro strap.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Comfortable
*by R***. on March 26, 2026*

I work in a tactical environment - they are comfortable with. Standing and walking for long periods - comfortable. The zipper on the side works with ease. Laces could be a little longer. no rips or tears or any signs. I have a wide foot, and it fits perfectly.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Product, Size Runs Big

Great boots, extremely comfortable! They run very big. I had to go a half size down from what I normally wear in boots.
