Great addition to any smoker
These are great. Appear identical to the OEM ones at 2\3 the cost and you get 2 of them. I installed one on a 22 inch Weber kettle and the other on a pit barrel cooker. The porcelain exterior of the kettle is really hard. So I drilled from the inside of the grill. Trick is to push firmly and drill slow. A sharp bit is also a good idea. Drill a small starter hole, then a 1/8 inch hole and then use a stepbit to go to the needed 1 1/4 inch hole. Then from the outside of the grill use the step bit to lightly knock off the burrs and clean up the hole. I coated the inside of the hole with some black high temp paint on a Qtip. Probably not necessary but it can't hurt. I bought the step bit on Amazon too. Putting the grommet in isn't too hard but you need to follow the instructions and put it in hot water. You can also use some vegetable oil around the edges of the grommet to help it slide in. Start the grommet on one side of the hole and keep pressing it in and working your way around till it completely pops in. Be patient and don't say too many bad words. It has to fit right to not leak smoke. It works great. You can easily get 4 temp probe wires through it. It doesn't leak smoke. It does the job at a fair price.

Works just like factory installed ports
I bought these to add to an older Weber Smokey Mountain smoker, and all went well. The only thing I would do differently is to not smooth the hole as much as I did -- on first use, the port got pushed into the smoker when I tried to push a probe through. I think you should drill the hole (I used a metal cutting hole saw in a drill), and then lightly debur the opening -- in other words, leave a bit of a sharp edge so the metal will grip the silicon wafer. I think as the probe port gets used and loosens up, I won't have any more problems. Once installed and the probes pushed through, this port works exactly as the factory installed port on my newer WSM.

Great for my older WSM
I've got an older 22" WSM that doesn't include the thermometer probe grommets like the newer ones do. Started by drilling a 1/8" size hole with standard drill bit then used a Harbor Freight step bit to drill the hole to size with little to no problems. All using a simple cordless drill. Used a finishing file to knock out the burrs. I was able to fit the grommet in with just a little finagling. I've used the smoker several times since running 2 probes through the grommet (one for meat and one for ambient) and so far works as advertised, and is much cheaper than the original Weber OEM part.

Fits the Oklahoma Joe Highland with some elbow grease.
Given I bought this for a smoker this wasn't meant for, it works pretty well. I bought the step drill bit to go with it, and installation took less than an hour. It was a little tight of a fit, but it ensures an airtight seal.

Great Small Upgrade
I saw this product on a YouTube video on improvements for your smoker. The concept made sense to me, so I ordered them. Install is straightforward, drill a hole, push them in place. I’ve used my smoker twice now with these and see no signs of smoke escaping around it.

Good Product
If you own a steel kettle or smoker, you need one of these. Until I installed this, I had to run my probe cables over the cover lip which makes an air leak and doesn't do the cables any good either. I ordered a step drill bit onlong with the grommet. It all worked great right out of the box. Only took a few seconds to drill the hole (under the top lip, but over the grate). And, man, that Weber metal is tough. Use good starter bits before the step drill. Lots of pointers on youtube. See Phil N Florence. The grommet instructions suggested soaking the unit in warm water first. I didn't do that and wished I had. Installing the grommet itself took a bit of fiddling but with the help of a thin putty knife, it seated perfectly. Good idea to paint the raw hole metal with some black high temp paint to keep rust away.

These Grommets Are a Game Changer, but Presoak in Hot Water!
Having just installed 1 of the 2 grommets I purchased in January, I will have to follow up on a review of actual use but doing a dry run with all my probes I can already tell this will be a game changer! They ease right in which will be nice, especially for the times I will forget to insert the probe until the smoker is hot (which is always, lol!). I recommend you START SOAKING THE GROMMETS IN HOT WATER FIRST....there I got that out of the way!! Install was easier than expected but more time consuming. Using a 1-1/4" step bit, with a 1/4" starter bit hole was slow going for safety and for accuracy so not to oblong the hole and to keep the hole fairly clean. I stopped about every 10-15 revolutions to cool and lube the step bit with dishwashing liquid, which was my preference over oil running inside my smoker. Also, I cleaned the inside very well around and especially under the hole to stick a piece of sticky tape, starting just under the hole as if I were covering the hole, bit letting the tape dangle out as a sort of 'sticky shelf' to catch the shavings coming off. What burrs were there after finishing used a small hobby file to smooth. I recommend some high temp paint maybe around the hole to prevent rust. Tape the outside over the hole and spray from the inside out, recommend. By this time your grommet has soaked for a while and it went it carefully and swiftly with ease! That's it, you're done! Sorry for such a long review but I wanted to let people know that it's fairly simple, just take your time.

Super easy to install, just need to make a 1 1/4 inch hole and voila. I used a step bit. Installed it on my homemade smoker and it is not letting air leak throught so it works like a charm.

Few years ago stupidity allowed me to decide to use the smoker for burning up some old wood- great fire and looked like could’ve roasted a marshmallow the size of a small child!….until I noticed the plastic thermometer bung here dripping down the side! Having made do without it and a few failed improvisations later -finally bought this and frankly it’s great! Speedy delivery, easy to fix and basically hassle free.

Correspond à la description. Mais reçu qu'une seule pièce au lieu de deux.

Used for my 21 1/2 in WSM. A lot of use over the last year and a half and the grommet ended up in two pieces. Alittle expensive but they fit perfectly so I’m happy with the two I got.
