The flap swivels (on its fixings at the back of the buckle) between being open and being closed (closed means flat against the back of the buckle with the teeth pointing towards the 'inside' of the buckle). When you have swivelled the flap to the open position there is enough of a gap between the flap and the back of the buckle for you to push the end of the belt into this gap. At the time you push the belt into that gap, the teeth I referred to earlier should be pointing upwards away from the belt material. Once you've pushed the end of the belt into the space between the flap and the back of the buckle, you then need only to swivel the flap back again so that, as you swivel the flap down in an effort to flatten it against the back of the buckle, the teeth bite down onto the belt material and trap (fix) the belt material in place. As long as the flap with the teeth on is pushed hard enough and far enough down, the teeth will grip the belt material and the flap will remain closed. The belt will then hold firm when you do the belt up in the usual way. Mine has never come loose once the flap has been swivelled fully to trap the end of the belt material in the teeth of the flap. This is the fourth one I've purchased! *by J***B on 12 May 2022* These belts really are good, well made, tough, easy to fasten and unfasten, never slip undone or loosen unexpectedly. Good style and design and good colour choices. Easy to shorten if you need to and they have a really tough buckle system that I've never had any trouble with. I've found them so useful and quick to buckle and unbuckle that I now use them for other purposes too. For example, I have an old weatherproof jacket that has zip failure and so rather than be told that the zip can't be mended unless I spend the cost of a new jacket on its replacement, I now use one of these belts to wrap around the outside of the coat to keep it closed against the wind and rain., Does that job perfectly and the fact that the belt is long enough and can be used like this to allow me to continue using my weatherproof coat instead of having to ditch it, is great. I've found other uses for these belts too because they are so quick to fix at any length due to the excellent buckle, like helping to secure heavy feed bags to my body when needing to carry horse feed over a distance. They allow a part of the weight to be taken off my arms which allows me to carry additional fiddly bowls and the like at the same time. I've used them to strap things to other things tightly too. Really appreciate the usefulness of these belts. Oh, and they're also really useful for the more usual job of holding up jeans and trousers. Feels alright when worn all day. *by A***P on 23 December 2023* It's a reasonably stiff belt, but not too wide, so that's no hindrance.The clasp is really strong, I'm not the slimmest guy and belts have a tendency to fight against my girth, but the clasp really holds and is easy to use.It's a plastic clasp but the plastic is decent. The teeth that hold the belt end are strong and the teeth that grip the belt passed through the clap are just as strong.There's an elastic loop which can move along the belt so when you've passed the belt through trouser loops you won't end up with a loose end floating around.The red stripes are a dull red, I was hoping they'd be brighter but it's an alright red if you aren't making a feature of the stripe in your outfit. Possibly closer to maroon than crimson.I've worn the belt for extended periods and not found it uncomfortable. Given the nature of the clasp grip, if you find yourself caught short it doesn't unclasp in a hurry as you need to really pull on it to unfasten. Older gents should know that.The material of the belt can be cut to a fitting length if you're very slender, just need to pass a flame across the end to seal it. there's no end capping as there is on some belts of this style.Overall I'm quite impressed. Prefer this to the webbing belts with metal clasps and end caps.
