They are leak resistance and keep liquids cold or hot. They fit in cup holders and side pouches of backpacks-which is huge for us! All the colors make it easy to keep track of everyone's water bottle. I prefer to not have a straw-so this set-up is ideal for me/our family. However, one could put a straw in it if they wanted. I like the ability to twist the top to drink (small opening); or twist off the top to fill with larger things such as ice, etc. My only suggestion would be to have the small cap attach somehow so it wasn't lost when removed.
