True D2
Been bashing on the 4" chef type blade. Battened Oak, Pine and hard Fir fat wood all cut easily. The edge is not showing any change. Still cuts paper. 2 months two or three hundred feather sticks from really hard maple and the edge is holding up.

Up dated review after giving 1 star initially
I initially rated this knife one star because I was fairly certain it was not D2 steel. I could not get the thing to hold a decent edge. I kept putting a traditional V-grind on it. I eventually spent the time to put a great shaving sharp convex edge on the knife. That is what it was missing. I put it through so tests to see how well it would retain an edge. After batoning oak limbs to split for firewood, the knife held an edge sharp enough to slice paper like a boss, and was still shaving sharp. If you put the right edge on this thing, it is a damn good knife! GCS.... Sorry about the initial review!! You have won me over!
