Beautifully smooth, top quality
These are expensive but definitely worth investing in if you enjoy colour pencil drawing. However, I wouldn't recommend if you enjoy colouring books due to the cost. The colours are beautiful and they are so smooth to use and give the artist the textures they need for a realistic drawing. Like most pencils though you do need to take care not to drop them or over sharpen to avoid breakage. These are oil based pencils and top quality.

A creamy smooth joy to use.
Really impressed with these and they combine very well with the procolour obes too. Really creamy and smooth and even the tin of twelve are good enoufh for most portraits. I amazed by the quality though I haven't yet attempted a super reality fully layered and blended drawing yet. Here is a very quick loosely sketch the face is all of Derwent Lightfast and included procolour for background. Waiting for blending solution to fully try. A joy to use though.

Best pencils on the market ❤️
Better than Caran D’Ache Luminance!! I love these pencils. I can quite honestly say you won’t find better else where. They layer easily, they are smooth and buttery and maintain a good point for finer details, which is crazy for such a soft core. The colour range is beautiful!! I also use Chromoflows and Derwent Drawing pencils, and they all work well together. I probably won’t buy Caran D’Ache or Fabers anymore - Derwent have out done themselves and surpassed their competition 🔥🔥🔥

Lightfast, creamy and go down beautifully
I normally use Caren d'ache Luminance and Faber Castell Polys though I have Van gogh and Prismas as well so its great to see a range of Lightast pencils made in Britain a that was something that was sadly missing. I bought these because they are 100% lightfast and oil based so shouldn't bloom. I have to say I am most impressed as they are really lovely to use and very creamy for an oil based pencil so they really do go down very well and blend beautifully. If I have any minor complaints then its that they are really quite pricey and it's that in my set there is not enough variety of colour instead some of the colours are really similar like Ruby earth and Venitian red, Racing green and Spruce green, Seaweed and Olive Earth so I wish they had changed three of them for brighter colours, plus in my box a couple of the leads seem to break quite easily when sharpening which doesnt bode well but other than that they really are a dream to use and being lightfast they will stand the test of time. One of my pictures above shows the set I bought and my colour chart but the other shows a Kingfisher I have just finished using Poly Chromos, Caren d Ache and another derwent range, Inktense which are also lovely, with a Highland cow that I have just started using the new Derwent lightfast pencils and a few of my exisiting ones where I needed more colours, as you can see they really produce nice tones. My review is based on the original 36 colour set so perhaps the new 36 colour set , which provides the remaining 36 colours currently available, will provide a fuller set of colours but so far I havent seen that set available on Amazon and I only do this as a hobby so the full price is beyond my pocket. On the Derwent site it says the full set will offer 100 colours but only 72 are available at the moment so I don't know if the remaining 28 colours will be available as a separate set too, when they are released, but if they are then is they are affordable that would be wonderful, and certainly be added to my Christmas wish list.

Great colours
Great service from the seller, The Treasure Islands. The Derwent Lightfast pencils were a really good price, great value for money. I swatched all the colours out just on printer paper and the colours are really vibrant and solid, with 100 of the pencils it's a good colour range and of course Lightfast too.

Among the best pencils money can buy!
Derwent Lightfasts are quite a joy to have, though quite an expensive joy. They are beautiful pencils and it does have a very nice yet limited color palette as a lot of colors are similar to each other. I have noticed with these Lightfasts there are certain colors that are unique that I don’t have in my other artists sets like Polychromos, Prismacolor or Caran D’Ache. It’s actually nice to have purples and pinks that are lightfast! I’ve really enjoyed using the color arctic, mars black and midnight black which I haven’t seen in other sets. Performance wise, I love these pencils. They have a thick core, they stay sharp for a little while, and they are very saturated and show up the best on black paper compared to all the pencil brands previously mentioned in this review. They blend and layer like a dream come true and it doesn’t take much pressure to get color on the page. They struggle a little bit with a lighter gradient but that’s not a deal breaker. The color of the barrel does not match the pigment put down, so swatch the pencils first before you figure out what you need to grab. The Lightfasts are a fat pencil but these pencils feel very comfortable in the hand than a standard pencil for me. I noticed there are a lot of reviews about breakages. I’ve used these for 5 drawings already and experienced little breakages, but nothing significant. It’s good to have a nice sharpener with these cause cheap sharpeners will cause issues. The packaging is very nice in terms of artwork, but not very friendly to the pencils thus causing some breakage issues with a few pencils on their first sharpening. I strongly recommend getting a case for these as they’ll have a better chance of staying safe. The tin is too large and bulky to have them used from the tin. Derwent is transparent with their industry standard lightfast testing (not in-house or made up testing that many companies tend to do) and each pencil has a true high lightfastness with the rating on each pencil. I had an issue with Amazon customer service going through 3 representatives not properly explaining to me if I had received a counterfeit set as my pencils said “Made in England”, Not “Made in Britain” as it was different on the tin. England and Britain are the same as I was told but that’s not 100 percent true, but like pocketbooks if you got a Louis Vuitton that’s made in France and one in Paris. Of course there’s danger of that one of those pocketbooks are a fake just like the set of pencils I received and speculated. Take a very close at my pencils and what it says on the tin when I got them. Upon testing these, I do believe they are real Derwents in terms of their performance cause I know how they should behave. I have a color called Flesh Pink but on the Britain version it’s supposed to be Pale Peach, I know this cause it has the same number on them from online research. I do not give credit to Amazon as all they could explain to me is that they are legit from the order number and that Derwent is a reliable trading partner. They also failed in doing what they had promised in giving a $10 credit back for their inconvenience and oblivious ignorance. I did not take their explanation for granted, so I’m glad I tested these and not take their word for it. I also did some research too and found out that I have an older set. With this complication aside, my artwork has not looked any better because these pencils supplement my other collections of pencils and I am happy to have them in my possession. I highly recommend on getting them on sale because they are not worth its full or overly high price tag. As for Amazon customer service, don’t be playing games with customer questions about authenticity without giving reasonable explanation of why. Especially with items that are expensive! Order numbers and product descriptions are not enough to prove what was actually sent. Derwent as a trading partner made a bit more sense but it took the third representative to tell me that. I’m definitely going to continue to use the pencils as I am very happy with the product but my experience with Amazon customer service concerning this product is shameful and unreliable. Thank you for the pencils, but no thank you for not handling my concern in the way it should have been handled. I have been wrote off.

Beautiful presentation and amazing colors
I've been wanting to get these pencils for a while. They are beautiful and very creamy. The palette is very neutral with a ton or earthy and skin tones. I think I have enough colors here to draw anything I want. The colors blend and layer beautiful and are very creamy even though some colors do feel a little bit more scratchy. The pale peach color came broken, but amazon helped me resolved that issue. The box is great and very well made. 61 out of the 100 colors are lf1 which is the highest last fastness according to the ASTM standard. The only pencils that have a higher number of lf1 pencils are the Caran D'Ache luminance that have 78 lf1 pencils out of a hundred, but to be honest, lf2s are extremely lightfast and are still usable to sell your work if that is what you want. If you like the palette and prefer oil based pencils over wax based this is the way to go. This pencils are great
