These fire starters are great - you don't need a grill gun
I've been a faithful kamado joe user for about 3 years now and it has become by far my favorite way to cook. Nothing replaces that charcoal grill flavor that you can only get from a genuine smoker/grill. The most fun for me during the grilling process has always been cooking, knowing that I have full control over the temperature and flavor profile of my food. The boring stuff for me is having to get the fire started and then bring my kamado up to temperature. That is where these fire starters come into play. They are extremely effective at getting the coals up to temperature quickly and efficiently. I thought when I first purchased my kamado joe that I needed a grill gun or propane torch because everyone in the grilling videos always used them. However, I didn't want to spend more money after having already spent close to $2000 for my kamado. I also didn't want to have to mess with propane or gas unless it was really necessary and after a few times using these fire starters I figured out you really don't need anything else. If you just take one cube and place it within your coals to where it has some air flow and the coals are evenly distributed around it, your fire will start right up within 10 to 15 minutes. The cubes are easy to light and they don't cost much at all. I usually just have to hold a match next to it for a few seconds. It also doesn't hurt that they are compatible with just about any other grill or smoker.

Great fire starter
These work great. Use several pieces to start large amount of lump charcoal. I use a butane kitchen torch to light these…very quick ignition.

Slow ignite but roaring burn after fully lit
This stuff lights so easy with a good spark from my flint and steel. It also holds a small flame easy and actually doesn’t engulf the thing immediately which I like so I have a few seconds to get it under my wood without burning myself. Once it fully light though this thing burns like crazy for a couple of minutes and easily gets our logs going. I don’t notice any odors with it other than the smoke from our logs. Very good quality stuff.

Excellent for lump and briquette charcoal
I've been using these ever since I got the Big Joe in late 2015, and they work as advertised. I used to use a long kitchen lighter to light these, but that was a pain in windy sitiations since the KJ fire starters tended to take about 30 seconds to fully catch, and the kitchen lighter would often go out multiple times while trying to light the fire starters, so I bought a butane torch to light them, and now all is well. My typical experience is that one fire starter will get the grill to a smoking temp of about 215-220 F in 30 mins. If I want a hotter fire in the same amount of time, then using two fire starters helps, but the law of dimishing returns applies here. These work great for briquette charcoal too, which is great if you're like me and don't use lighter fluid. Using these instead of paper in a charoal chimney result in less flying burning paper, and gets the fire going faster. Putting one in the middle of a pile in my Weber kettle works great as well. Btw, the torch I bought is the Blazer GT8000 Big Shot, which is abailable on Amazon. I'm very happy with it.

4 stars only 4 this shipment
These are great fire starters. I use 2 for my Kamado Joe Jr. I took off one star because this shipment was old to the point of a having signs of mold. The wax has saturated the cardboard box. They still work great. Maybe they should get an extra star for still working after being so egregiously old.

Best fire starters
These are the best fire starters I've used. I've tried using other brands and I've tried making my own with newspaper, grocery store paper bags, cardboard and oil. This is the best option for the price. 2 pieces starts the charcoal every time and they don't have oils and parabens that will taint you grill if you have a ceramic cooker like The Big Green Egg or Kamado Joe.
